Ben Carson Says Prison Accommodations Are So Comfy That Criminals Don’t Really Want To Leave

Ben Carson has come a long way as a career man. Born in Detroit, he is one of the most celebrated neurosurgeons in the world, having made numerous breakthroughs along the way. For example, Ben Carson was the first surgeon in the world to successfully separate conjoined twins separation who were joined at the head.

Now a politician, Ben Carson has also been a bestselling author, with his first being an autobiography called Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story.

Moving on to his political venture, Ben Carson has been exceptionally vocal on a wide range of issues since announcing his bid for the presidency this year. One of the most memorable moments was after the racially motivated shooting in Charleston. In a statement released by his campaign team, Ben Carson stated that Americans should rise above the racial divides and join hands, according to Daily Caller.

“The tragic shootings in Charleston, South Carolina yesterday are a manifestation of the evil that has gripped our society. Many of us have allowed the purveyors of hatred and division to create conflict between the races, the genders, religious groups, age groups and income groups. The Bible says that a house divided against itself cannot stand. With external jihadist forces trying to destroy us, why would we aid them by engaging in self-destructive behaviors stimulated by hate?

“We must remember that we are a pluralistic society with many components and many beliefs. If we are to live together peacefully and with prosperity, we must learn the true meaning of tolerance, and that it goes in both directions.”

That said, Ben Carson also recently visited a federal prison to check out the conditions. This is in reference to a speech he gave at a Young Republicans conference held not too long ago.

Ben Carson said that presently, America has too many people in prison. He speculated that the problem may not be in over-criminalization, but in the prison living conditions.

Ben Carson cited that on his last visit to a federal prison, he was surprised by the exceptional living conditions there, pointing out that at times criminals wouldn’t really want to leave because of the relative comfort they enjoy.

“I was flabbergasted by the accommodations — the exercise equipment, the libraries and the computers. A lot of times when it’s about time for one of the guys to be discharged, especially when its winter, they’ll do something so they can stay in there,” he explained, according to Salon.
