Miranda Lambert: A Rough Month

Country megastar Miranda Lambert is definitely not having a great month. Where most people would be enjoying their summer and working, if necessary, she has seen medical issues and the end to her four-year marriage to The Voice coach – and superstar in his own right – Blake Shelton. On July 8, Miranda Lambert cancelled her scheduled appearance at Canada’s Calgary Stampede due to what doctors deemed a “serious inflammation” of her vocal cords. On July 18, she was in tears singing “The House That Built Me,” a song that was initially on hold for Shelton to record. By July 20, Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton were announcing their divorce.

Whereas the Calgary concert is postponed, according to a statement from Miranda Lambert, it seems there’s no delay on her divorce. The judge signed the papers dissolving her marriage to Shelton on July 20.

The divorce news was something that her mother, Beverly Lambert, was stunned by. “I have no idea what you’re talking about. They didn’t tell me!” she told RadarOnline.

Given that response about the divorce, it seems likely Miranda Lambert will be facing some serious questions from her mother in addition to the emotional and medical issues she has dealt with and continues to experience, at least on an emotional level. During her appearance at Cheyenne Frontier Days in Wyoming – a concert where now-ex Shelton was performing as well – Miranda Lambert asked the audience to sing along to the lyrics while she sang.

Fan videos showed Miranda Lambert obviously struggling with her emotions as she wiped away tears.

The adoring crowd obliged her. Miranda Lambert’s emotional performance of the song came just two days before news broke about her split from Shelton. Neither had yet announced the plan to divorce before the event.

Shelton apparently was the one to initiate divorce proceedings, with Miranda Lambert moving to Nashville into the marital home there and him keeping the ranch in Oklahoma. Both appear to be intent on keeping up their concert schedules, with Miranda Lambert choosing to play clubs although she has arena dates lined up. Her Roadside Bars & Pink Guitars Unplugged tour sold out quickly after being announced on Twitter July 20.

The apparent catalyst for the divorce is not officially known, though TMZ reported today that Blake Shelton’s motivation for the divorce filing was the belief that Miranda Lambert had been unfaithful to him on possibly two occasions, once with country singer Chris Young. Young toured with Lambert a few years ago.

Many fans are devastated by the news of the divorce, having been certain of the couple’s longevity. Miranda Lambert, though, has moved her animals off of Shelton’s property, and the divorce was finalized July 20.
