Ed Sheeran Shares Some Big Music News

Ed Sheeran recently made headlines when he took the time to grant a terminally-ill 22-year-old woman’s bucket list wish. The woman was able to meet Ed backstage at his concert. Not only that, but Ed also posed with her for some photos. Now, Ed Sheeran is making headlines again because he has just shared some huge music news. Sheeran announced that he has just signed British singer/songwriter Jamie Lawson to his record label, Ginger Man Records. Jamie is officially the first artist to sign onto the record label, according MarketWatch. Jamie’s album debut will arrive in October.

Will Hicks, who is Sheeran’s longtime collaborator, produced Lawson’s album, which is called JAMIE LAWSON and it was mixed by Ruadhri Cushnan, who has also worked with Ed Sheeran. The album is already available for pre-order, and the single “Wasn’t Expecting That” will accompany sales, according to Broadway World. “Wasn’t Expecting That” was released back in April, and the video to the single can be found below.

Lawson’s single has already had a lot of success, as it has done quite well on the charts in Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. Not only that, but the single was certified platinum by Australia’s ARIA, as well as certified gold by New Zealand’s Recorded Music NZ.

Sheeran spoke about Lawson, saying that he heard of the singer a few years back. Sheeran continued to say that the track got him emotional and stopped him dead, which rarely happens. Sheeran praised Lawson’s work, saying that he put in a lot of raw emotion into it and he knew he wanted to work with Lawson in some way.

According to Sheeran, Jamie was the first artist he wanted to sign to his own label. Sheeran also said that he will now be able to put the music he loves out there on a massive platform.

Jamie Lawson and Ed Sheeran will be joining forces on select dates on the next U.S. leg of Sheeran’s world tour. That part of the tour will start on September 3 in Houston, Texas, and it will continue on throughout the rest of the month. Not only will Lawson be joining Sheeran on tour, but he will be headlining a show at The Studio at Webster Hall in New York City on September 29, and the following day he will headline a show at the Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles, California. Hotel Cafe is actually where Sheeran’s first headlining show in Los Angeles took place.
