Amber Alert: Abduction Alert Cancelled After 1-Year-Old NH Boy Found Safe

An Amber Alert was cancelled by police on early Friday morning in Somersworth, New Hampshire. The abduction alert was issued on late Thursday night after an 18-month-old boy and his 33-year-old father went missing.

According to authorities, Jeremiah Grant of Berwick, Maine, was arrested after a police chase in Maine’s Franklin County around 1:30 a.m. Malachi Grant, the child at the center of the Amber Alert, was found safe in the vehicle. Authorities said that Jeremiah took Malachi from his mother without her permission.

One of the officers stopped Grant and confirmed that the little boy was unharmed inside the car. Grant then left the scene, leading authorities on a police chase. He was stopped after police utilized road spikes on Route 27 in New Vineyard, Maine.

The police also noted that Jeremiah made comments that led them to believe that both he and Malachi were in danger. The authorities believe that he’s mentally unstable. Jeremiah is also a registered sex offender in the state of Maine, according to the state’s registry. He has a connection to a sexual assault that occurred outside of the state.

The Amber Alert was issued after the boy was taken from his mother in Somersworth, New Hampshire. According to police, the man is believed to be “mentally unstable and a danger to himself and others.”

He was charged by the Farmington Police Department as a fugitive. Grant will also be extradited back to New Hampshire to face additional charges, including felony custody interference and taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.

Jeremiah Grant was driving a gray 1991 Honda Accord with the New Hampshire license plate 2854569. The authorities stated that he did not own the vehicle.

The last time an Amber Alert was issued was when a woman helped save a kidnapped 7-year-old boy while she was on her smoke break. Courtney Best stepped out for a cigarette break outside of Family Dollar when she recognized a vehicle from an Amber Alert in Texas.

As soon as she checked the license plate, she realized it was the vehicle police were looking for. By the time police arrived, Best got into her car and followed the vehicle as she reported back to the 911 operator. Once the authorities caught up with Channing Galbraith, they arrested him on the scene. The boy, Nicholas Gomez, was found safe and was taken back to his family.
