Ed Sheeran: ‘No More Music, Just Acting’, Lands New TV Role

Ed Sheeran is a man of many talents.

Ed Sheeran, the 24-year old British singer who, as News Australia reported, recently filmed a cameo for the Australian soap opera Home and Away, is now set to appear in a new TV series. Ed Sheeran has earlier been vocal about his desire to act in the HBO fantasy drama Game of Thrones, and though his wish on that front seems far from fulfilled, he has managed to land himself an acting gig on a new TV series.

Ed Sheeran spoke to the Sun about his latest acting opportunity.

“I have an acting job coming out after July. I can’t say too much about it because the pilot just got picked up, which is good, but it’s a TV show. It’s a medieval TV show and it’s really, really dark. It’s gruesome and it’s going to be fine because my friend wrote it. He had a musician in his last show and I said ‘Oh, did he audition for that?’ and he said, ‘No, but I just thought he would be good in it.’ So I said, ‘Can you put me in a show next?’ “

In early March, media reports suggested that Ed Sheeran had already agreed to an acting role in an upcoming Bollywood film, Happy New Year 2, to be directed by the choreographer-turned-director, Farah Khan. The caption beneath Farah Khan’s Twitter message, written in Hindi, has been roughly translating into English.

“Take this – pictures of me with my old friend @juniorbachchan and my new one Ed Sheeran.. At least one kiss is warranted!”

But while any news about Ed Sheeran’s Bollywood unveiling have since fizzed out, it now appears certain that the pop singer will finally make his full-scale acting debut in the as-yet-unnamed medieval TV series. And though his fans would love Ed Sheeran to try his luck in front of the camera, they would hope such a move does not prove detrimental to his music career.

Because, as it turns out, there have been moments before when he has actually contemplated turning his back on music. Ed Sheeran spoke about such a time in his career in an interview with Metro.

“There was a part I auditioned for on an ITV show and it was music and acting. And I thought this would be fun and I got down to the final six. I said to myself if I got this, no more music just acting and if I didn’t, no more acting, just music and I didn’t. Then I just did music and it all went well.”

We, along with his millions of fans worldwide, are glad Ed Sheeran made that decision. It seems to be paying off big time.
