Jennifer Lawrence Knows Her H2O Tattoo Isn’t Technically Correct, But That Doesn’t Bother The ‘Hunger Games’ Actress [Video]

Jennifer Lawrence got a tattoo that is spelled H2O, the chemical formula for water, but the miniature permanent ink has a big typo.

Lawrence got a H2O for multiple reasons, explained The Hunger Games actress during an interview with HitFix,

“It’s not like a real tattoo. I was like, ‘I’m always going to need to be hydrated. So I guess I should just get ‘H20’ on my hand.”

What Jennifer Lawrence meant with her “not like a real tattoo” statement, was that it is very faint and very hard to notice, unless one’s prone to nitpick. As Lawrence likes to put it, the H2O tattoo is “scar-colored”. But it is exactly what she was looking for, reported International Business Times.

Interestingly, it’s not just the need to be reminded to drink plenty of water that urged Lawrence to get a tattoo of H2O. While “hanging out” with her Hunger Games co-star Liam Hemsworth and his family, he and the group decided they wanted tattoos. Not the one to shy away, Jennifer Lawrence agreed to get one too, but decided it was best if she went with something that doesn’t draw attention. The H2O tattoo is quite inconspicuous.

Speaking about the very minor, but noticeable mistake, Lawrence said,

“It’s literally the most un-rebellious tattoo that anyone could ever get. I am aware that the 2 was inked improperly. It should be a subscript, ‘low’ 2 but I mistakenly got a superscript, ‘high’ 2.”

Water is composed of two Hydrogen atoms and single Oxygen atom. The number ‘2’ she was referring to and is visible in the H2O tattoo should have been at the bottom of H, the symbol for Hydrogen. Instead, the 2 appears on the top left side of O (Oxygen). In chemical terminology, numbers that represent the atoms present in the formula, are not placed as a superscript. Hence the H2O tattoo on Lawrence’s right hand is technically incorrectly denoted.

The mistake happened perhaps because neither Jennifer Lawrence nor the tattoo artist was aware how to correctly use the chemical symbols. Moreover, neither of the two bothered to verify what they were about to do. Admitting her side of the mistake, Jennifer jokingly added,

“I should have Googled it before I got it tattooed on my body forever.”

The only way to remedy the error is to opt for laser-based tattoo removal and then tattoo the ‘2’ where it belongs; at the lower right side of ‘H’. It is apparent that the actress isn’t focusing on the tiny error. Instead Jennifer Lawrence must surely be looking forward to “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2,” which is to be released in U.S. theaters Nov. 20. The star-studded movie is part of a series that has gained a cult status.
