Drew Barrymore Jumps Into The Wine Business

Drew Barrymore is busy, she’s engaged to Will Kopelman, she is rumored to be pregnant and now she has launched a new wine in Barrymore 2011 Pinot Grigio.

Speaking to Wine Spectator magazine last month Barrymore said of her new venture:

“I love wine, and it’s always fun when you can do something in your work life that you love in your personal life.”

The Pinot will roll out in California then follow with a limited release in New York wine shops starting May 3. Online buyers can also pick up the beverage from wine.com and klwines.com at a cost of $20 per bottle.

If you are as skeptical about a Barrymore wine as I was rest assured at just $20 it holds its own, winning a gold medal at Le Challenge International du Vin, the largest international wine competition in France.

According to the company’s literature:

“A fan of crisp, fruity white wine, Barrymore has created a wine that reflects her style and personality: fresh, dynamic and fun.”

The move into the wine business may surprise some Drew Barrymore fans who at the age of 13 was addicted to alcohol, pot and cocaine.

To create a successful wine business Drew Barrymore partnered with SGC Group, the official licensee for Barrymore Wines and according to the company Drew Barrymore made various trips to Italy in order to become intimately involved in the process.

These days it seems like every celebrity is jumping on the wine band wagon but my favorite still has to be Dave Matthews’ “Dreaming Trees” wine as the song lends itself so well to a wine name.
