Vicki Gunvalson Explains Decision To Air Mother’s Death On ‘RHOC’ Season 10

Vicki Gunvalson was seen collapsing after learning of her mother’s death on Monday’s episode of The Real Housewives of Orange County. The moment was both shocking and heartbreaking, and as fans watched at home, many questioned why Vicki Gunvalson would want to expose such a personal moment on the show. In an interview with Andy Cohen, which was filmed prior to the episode airing, Vicki Gunvalson defended her decision.

“It’s part of my reality. I lost my mother,” Vicki Gunvalson explained, according to E! News.

“I signed up for all areas of my life to exposed—the good and the bad. There’s been a lot of great moments that have been aired and there’s a lot of moments that I wish I wasn’t on a reality show. This is not a moment that I feel, as of right now, that I regret because statistically people are going to lose their parents, right? We’re going to be alive when our parents die, statistically… I don’t blame Bravo, I don’t blame [production company behind RHOC] Evolution, I don’t blame anybody—it’s my life.”

“It’s life. And we’re all going to die. We’re all going to die one day,” Vicki Gunvalson added.

Vicki Gunvalson went on to admit her mother, Joanne Steinmetz, “didn’t like” The Real Housewives of Orange County, and felt she was different on the show. Steinmetz also had strong opinions about Gunvalson’s co-stars, specifically Tamra Barney and Heather Dubrow. According to Gunvalson, Steinmetz felt she was too good for the show, and deserved a show of her own. Still, fans saw Steinmetz appear on the show a number of times.

Online, as last night’s episode of the reality show aired, Andy Cohen was faced with backlash from fans who felt it was inappropriate to air Gunvalson’s phone call (Gunvalson learned of her mother’s death on the phone during game night with her co-stars) on the show. However, judging by Gunvalson’s interview with her Bravo boss, she was not forced into airing any of it — it was completely her choice.

As the Inquisitr previously reported, Vicki Gunvalson also spoke of her mother in her latest Bravo blog. Speaking to fans of The Real Housewives of Orange County, Vicki Gunvalson shared her thoughts about the episode, and paid tribute to her mother.
