Sarah Jessica Parker’s, Matthew Broderick’s Loss On Townhouse Totals $745,000

Sarah Jessica Parker’s and Matthew Broderick’s loss on their townhouse totaled a whopping $745,000.

In 2011, the couple purchased the 150-year-old townhouse in Greenwich Village for $18,995,000. Nearly a year later, they decided to place their home up for sale, listing it at $24.99 million. Then, last summer, they decided to lower their asking price to $22 million. There most recent price tag totaled $19.95 million.

Despite their attempts at making a profit off of their home, the couple had to settle for a lower offer of $18.25 million, taking a loss of $745,000. Ouch! And that is not including the money they spent to refurbish the 1846 brick building, located at 20 East 10th Street, between Fifth Avenue and University Place, and the annual taxes which totaled nearly $100,000 per year, according to the New York Times.

The lavish 6,800-square-foot home is 25 feet wide and has six bedrooms and seven fireplaces. According to the listing on real estate website Zillow, it also features a hand-carved stone tub in the master suite, and a Juliet balcony off the second floor.

The townhouse was listed with Fredrik Eklund of Douglas Elliman Real Estate, and also boasts a 25-by-10-foot private terrace overlooking the rear garden.

According to the listing, “the Family Floor is illuminated by two oversized skylights. 50? long bookcases, a separate built-in entertainment system, small windowed office with storage closet, and limestone / mosaic half-bath.”

Even at the low price of $18.25 million, and Sarah Jessica Parker’s and Matthew Broderick’s loss of $745,000, the home was New York’s most expensive closing of the week.
