Joe Manganiello, ‘Magic Mike XXL’ Star, Talks About A New Project, Battle With Addiction, Relationship With Sofia Vergara, And Having Children
Magic Mike XXL star Joe Manganiello has discussed his alcohol addiction in prior interviews. He struggled with it in his twenties, and he dealt with it then because it got in the way of his career. Although he noted that it’s an “ongoing battle,” he proudly stated that he hasn’t had a drink in over a decade. Joe dished that he may use his life story some day in a project such as a play or a book, and he stated the following according to ABC News.
“I was writing a one-man show at some point, and maybe I’ll pick up with that or turn that into a book; there are some hurdles that were thrown my way in life that I had to get over [that I want to discuss]…. I battled with addiction at a young age and got to the other side of that. That’s an ongoing battle. I think there’s a story in there somewhere about trying to find my way through that and making it to where I am today.”
With his vast Magic Mike following, it would probably be a success. He also opened up about his media-followed relationship with fiancée Sofia Vergara. Manganiello noted that on their first date, she listed reasons why their relationship would never work out. Of course, so far, the couple seems to be meant for each other. He stated the following according to ABC News.
“Our first date was in June, and then I proposed to her on Christmas Eve; [we dated for] about six months. When you know, you know, and we knew right away–like, very quickly. Our first date was her giving me every reason why it would never work out. Like, ‘You’re too young, you’re an actor, you’re this, you’re that.'”
Manganiello noted that he told Vergara that, if she needed space to be single, to do so. But she didn’t flee, and their relationship blossomed. They both tried to not date people in the same profession, because dating an actress or actor often meant being away from each other for prolonged periods of time. However, then they wound up dating people who didn’t understand them when they dated outside of their profession, according to ET Online.
Manganiello also discussed the possibility of having children with Vergara and stated the following according to ABC News.
“I don’t know what [our] kid’s going to be like. Male or female, he or she could be a professional basketball player. He or she could have the height to do that! The kid could come out and want to play chess…or be a complete academic. This kid could be whatever this kid wants. I think it’s about just supporting and pushing children into being the best they can at whatever it is that they choose, but helping them figure out what it is they want to do.”
He also discussed whether he would ever star with his lady love. The answer is probably not. According to an article in the Inquisitr, they don’t want to become the next Bennifer, previously known as Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez.
