‘Inside Out’ Swapped For ‘Insidious: Chapter 3’ At Ohio Movie Theatre, Children And Parents Traumatized

Movie-goers at an Ohio cinema were left traumatized when a projectionist’s error had parents and children watching the opening scene of the horror prequel Insidious: Chapter 3, instead of the Disney-Pixar film Inside Out.

The Journal-News reported that earlier this week human error caused the mistake at Danbarry Cinema, in Middleton, Ohio, that has one mother — who was there to see Inside Out with her five children — extremely angry, despite the theatre’s attempt to rectify the situation.

Jazmyn Moore took to the Journal-News Facebook page to express her outrage at the mix-up between Inside Out and Insidious.

“I got our money back, but the damage is already done. [M]y children are terrified and keep asking questions.”

Moore went on to state that before she and the other adults — who had also brought children to see Inside Out — left the movie with the kids in tow, they had already been bombarded by horrific images, which included children being tied up and murdered.

A manager at the cinema said the confusion happened because both Inside Out and Insidious start with the letters INSID, and an employee working in the projection booth put the wrong reel in the projector. The manager also asserted that staff apologized profusely to the scared movie-goers, refunded their money, and gave everyone upgraded passes to see Inside Out in 3D.

Despite Moore’s comments, however, another woman in attendance that day, Mandy Atkins, refuted Jazmyn’s claims in a Facebook post of her own.

“Actually, I too was there that night, and I remember it happening quite differently.

Insidious never started. The managers caught on to what was happening, and turned the film off right after the opening credits cut off. There are no children murdered anywhere within the entire hour and a half of Insidious, so it is pretty clear that this was a gross exaggeration.

[A]s a customer that was there at that time, I have to say that the children were all calm and fine until a couple of parents started screaming at the tops of their lungs, scaring everyone far more than the unfortunate mix-up did.

Also, you forgot to mention that the staff was entirely apologetic, gave free movie passes to all 50+ people, upgraded everyone to 3D for free, and restarted another showing of Inside Out for everyone without question.”

Do you feel Moore’s outrage at her children seeing parts of Insidious rather than Inside Out is warranted? Did theatre staff respond sufficiently?
