GM Recalls 2009General Motors is recalling about 1.5 million vehicles over a problem that could result in an engine fire. The GM recalls were announced Monday afternoon.

GM Recalls 2009: Buick, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, & Pontiac

The GM recalls affect Buick, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac vehicles. The cars are said to have a risk of engine oil leakage that could spark a fire within the plastic spark plug wire channel, which could in turn spread flames further into the engine. The leaking could occur during “hard braking,” GM says.

The affected models are:

• 1997 – 2003 Buick Recal
• 2000 – 2003 Chevy Impala
• 1998 – 1999 Chevy Lumina
• 1998 – 2003 Chevy Monte Carlo
• 1998 – 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue
• 1997 – 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix

If you have one of the models listed in the GM recalls list, you’re advised to see your dealer as soon as possible. They’ll install new spark plug wire retainers, which should correct the problem.

My husband took my Grand Prix in to the dealer on May 15 2009 for the recall. The dealer supposedly fixed it. I went shopping May 26, came out of the store and my car was on fire.

  2. what did you do? I got home from the store today and right after I got inside my car caught fire.
