Mindy Kaling, ‘Inside Out’ Star, Flatlines After Child Molestation Joke On ‘Good Morning America’

Mindy Kaling may have added some significant clout to her name by appearing in Disney-Pixar’s upcoming movie Inside Out, but the comedian might need some pointers on how to conduct herself when promoting a children’s movie.

While appearing on Good Morning America on Wednesday, Mindy couldn’t stop herself from biting on a double entendre accidentally laid out in front of her by host George Stephanopoulos.

The plot of Inside Out revolves around Kaling and four other actors playing the emotions of pre-teen girl — Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust. After George spoke fondly of taking his daughters to a screening of Inside Out, he said that the film “really does make you feel like you are inside of this 11-year-old girl.”

Immediately, you can see that Mindy is taken aback by Stephanopoulos’s statement, but instead of just rolling with the host’s slip of the tongue, Mindy decided to treat the early morning crowd to a glimpse of late night humor. Nodding awkwardly, Kaling eventually blurts out, “… in a profoundly wholesome way.” Watch the clip below to decide if you think Mindy regretted the joke (at about 0:45) afterward.

Later in the interview, Kaling commented how excited she was to be appearing on Good Morning America for the first time in her career, so perhaps her inappropriate joke can be attributed to nerves. Either way, with George’s help, Mindy managed to steer the interview back into Inside Out-audience friendly territory with a touching story about her mother.

“When I was little, my mom who was an OBGYN and was incredibly busy… there was one time when she came home when I was like four or five years old, and she brought home some Dunkin’ Donuts, and I remember just sitting on her lap and she introduced me to a jelly donut, and we shared it together. It was at a time when I didn’t want to share my mom with anyone so that was a very magical experience for me.”

Stephanopoulos also chided Mindy later in the interview when she answered a question from her own set of conversation starters, Questions That I Ask When I to Talk About Myself. Answering “What’s the most embarrassing song on your iPod?”, Kaling once again cheated the censors by replying “Work, B***h” by Britney Spears. George laughed while saying, “Okay, and you just said it on morning television,” before quickly moving on to the next question.

Do you think Inside Out‘s Mindy Kaling will get invited back to Good Morning America?
