Texas Firefighter Responds To Horrific Head-On Car Crash, Finds Son Trapped Inside Mangled Car And Wife Ejected, Lying Motionless On Pavement

When a Huntsville, Texas, firefighter responded to a head-on car crash, he never expected to arrive at the scene to find his son trapped inside their mangled car and his wife ejected from the vehicle, lying motionless on the pavement.

According to Mirror, on Saturday, Aaron Van Riper – who is the assistant chief at the Thomas Lake Fire Department — received a call about a serious car crash involving a pickup truck and a car.

Firefighters, including Aaron, immediately rushed to the scene.

Upon their arrival, Aaron was shocked to discover that his wife, Amber Van Riper – who is a graphic designer — and his 7-year-old son, Johnathan Van Riper, were among those involved in the horrifying car crash.

Apparently, the two were driving in their vehicle on the 2600 block of FM 980 at Lakeland Road near Riverside when they were hit head-on by a pick-up truck.

The cause of the accident has yet to be determined.

It appears Amber was ejected from the vehicle during the crash as she was discovered laying motionless on the pavement. Aaron’s son was trapped inside the mangled car.

“It’s my family. My wife was laying there on the ground. By the look of the car, I don’t know how either one of them lived. There was nothing left of that car,” said Riper.

“Once I saw my son… I started going into a little bit of a panic mode.”

After Aaron put his emotions to the side, he was able to think like a firefighter and save his family. Once Johnathan was freed from the car, he and his mother were airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hosptial.

Amber suffered a broken pelvis and had to undergo nine hours of surgery while Johnathan suffered a broken leg and arm.

“She gave a thumbs-up to the doctor, but that’s the first time she showed signs of anything,” Aaron said about his wife after undergoing surgery.

Despite the horrific head-on collision, the mother and son survived — they are expected to make a full recovery. However, a GoFundMe page was created to raise $50,000 for medical expenses since the family doesn’t have medical insurance.
