What’s The Deal With Christina Aguilera’s Next Album, Anyway?

The short answer is that no one really knows. Christina Aguilera has been busy lately. Aguilera, who is lovingly nicknamed “X-Tina” by her fans, appeared as a mentor on TV’s reality show The Voice for several years running, and had a daughter with her fiancé last year. So, it goes without saying that if you got a taste of Christina’s last album, Lotus, and want more, you might be waiting a while.

According to Bustle, Christina met up with songwriter Pharell Williams while she was pregnant with her daughter to discuss her (Christina’s, not the baby’s) next album and the way she wanted to approach it (you don’t tell Christina Aguilera how to do an album or anything really, she tells you).

“I just have to make sure it’s right and it’s genuine and it’s heartfelt. And I’m very excited to pour my heart out into this record fully. I’ve been gathering and writing and coming up with these amazing ideas for different parts of how I was feeling the past year, so I’m really excited to vocalize all of it and make it all come together.”

Okay, so that doesn’t really tell us when or if Christina’s next album is going to be happening, but it’s still a hint about the types of content Aguilera might want to include on it. For what it’s worth, Lotus contained a mixture of catchy dance-type tracks, as well as a few heartfelt songs that really let Christina’s vocals shine through due to a subdued melody. Perhaps Aguilera’s next album will be more of the same, or maybe she’ll be switching it up, given that the fans were unkind to Lotus.

As Popcrush explains, an unofficial track list was post to Twitter by a die-hard Christina fan. If we’re to believe the track listing, Christina’s new album will have duets with artists ranging from Pharell Williams to Iggy Azalea and Rihanna, but again, everything’s up in the air right now.

Christina, whose hobbies apparently include impersonating Britney Spears and other musicians in her free time, has already proven she can nail collaborations with pretty much anyone. That includes country singer Blake Shelton, whom she enlisted for her soulful tune “Just A Fool.”

Regardless of whether the Twitter clues are red herrings or actual hints, social media seems pretty stoked for a possible new Christina album — some tweeters are quite literally demanding Aguilera make it happen soon (in both English and Spanish). Billboard mentions that Miss Aguilera has been working on her new album since April of last year. While there’s no definite release date yet, the site collected some of Xtina’s official tweets, which promised “….beautiful music in 2015.” Let’s hope she gets around to it before we’re watching the ball drop and ringing in 2016.
