‘Penny Dreadful’ Foretells Vanessa’s Dark Secrets Coming To Light [Video]

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Penny Dreadful.

Anyone having seen this week’s episode of Penny Dreadful, aptly titled “Glorious Horrors,” will recall in vivid detail how following a deadly dance in which Vanessa Ives (played by Eva Green) faced the witches who have been haunting her throughout Penny Dreadful‘s second season, Ms. Ives saw the entire ballroom, as well as herself, showered in blood that would have even shocked Stephen King’s Carrie White. It seems that delusion, or perhaps premonition, was a hint at what Penny Dreadful fans might expect in next week’s episode, “Little Scorpion.”

The official synopsis for Penny Dreadful, “Little Scorpion” is quoted below from CarterMatt.

“Vanessa and Ethan flee to the Cut-Wife’s cottage on the lonely moors where they draw closer together, until a figure from her dark past resurfaces. Meanwhile, Lyle and Frankenstein uncover disturbing information from the Verbis Diablo relics; and its learned that Lily isn’t what she appears to be.”

When Penny Dreadful does resume, fans will find that the romance, which was seemingly cut so short by Ethan Chandler’s (Josh Hartnett) dismissal of Vanessa’s invitation to the ball, will be reignited as the two steal away to the cut-wife’s cabin. This will come as good news to those of us feeling Vanessa’s heartbreak upon Ethan’s refusal to attend the aforementioned ball. That good news will be as short-lived as any of the happiness seen on Penny Dreadful, when the budding love between Vanessa and Ethan is further complicated by a re-emergence from Vanessa’s “dark past.”

All signs seem to point to a new stranger re-entering Vanessa’s life and sources stress that “Little Scorpion” will reveal several major secrets that will change everything for Penny Dreadful fans. It seems that not all of those secrets will concern Vanessa, as the synopsis even implies that there’s more going on with Lily (Billie Piper) than we have been led to believe up to this point in Penny Dreadful‘s second season.

Meanwhile, Evelyn’s hold over Sir Malcom (Timothy Dalton) seems to be widening the chasm that has slowly been dividing the group, even after Vanessa and Ethan had taken notice of Malcom’s uncharacteristic reaction to news of the death of his wife. It remains to be seen how things will pan out for the group and whether both Sir Malcom and Ms. Ives can be saved from Evelyn Poole’s clutches, but one thing is certain: they will all be bathed in blood.

Penny Dreadful airs Sunday nights on Showtime.
