One Direction Discuss Their ‘Eclectic’ New Album Without Zayn Malik
One Direction may still be on tour, but they’re already focused on their new album. The boy band’s highly-anticipated follow-up to Four is all that’s been on their fans’ minds lately. It’s the first album they’ll release without singer Zayn Malik. Now, the four remaining guys of One Direction have been teasing about the new direction they’re taking.
Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson hinted to Entertainment Tonight that their new album is going to be different than anything they have ever done in their lives. Niall Horan told ET / Live Nation that they’ve been experimenting with a mixture of sounds.
“There’s a few different sounds on the album, not all the songs sound the same, like, same vibe. They are all kind of different. Couple of different guitars and drums. It’s a lot different than what we did before… but, it’s cool.”
Liam Payne says that not all of the songs will about love and loss. They plan to include to some upbeat songs and jams. There should be a few songs that Directioners won’t be able to get off their minds.
“There’s a lot of old school vibes as well. I said before that it was quite Oasis-y but I was thinking about one song that I’ve been playing … it’s very diverse I think.”
Liam also added that some of the songs on 1D’s new album are very “eclectic” in style.
It was previously rumored that One Direction was collaborating with Nickelback and Fall Out Boy on their fifth studio album, but Niall Horan says it’s not true. Fans shouldn’t lose out hope just yet! It’s only because their album is still in the works.
“No collaborations so far. It’s still in the making so we’re not there yet.”
It also looks like One Direction’s tour will change, as well. The boy band is currently embarking on the North American leg of their On The Road Tour. They kicked off that part of the tour on July 9 in San Diego, California, according to the report. The guys also added 17 more tour dates.
In addition, Liam Payne added that they’re adding some new songs to their tour setlist. Liam added, “Well, we got some new songs I believe for this one.”
Louis Tomlinson chimed in: “That is true. Yep … four I think.”
While the singers couldn’t reveal which songs they’re adding to their tour’s set list, Payne added that the songs are favorites among Directioners everywhere.
“We have some favorites … maybe someone else’s favorite off the album – from last year’s.”
So what do the boys do while they’re on tour? Harry Styles is busy checking his phone for text messages. As for Louis Tomlinson, he loves starting dance parties and ordering pizza at 2 a.m. And it’s a tie between Liam and Harry when it comes to who takes the most “moody selfies.”
