Homecoming Queen Killed: Alyssa Renee Ramriez Died On Her Way Home From Prom


A Texas homecoming queen was killed in a massive flood, which was caused by a powerful storm. Authorities in Devine, Texas, confirmed 18-year-old Alyssa Renee Ramriez was driving home from the prom when her vehicle was swept away by high waters. Although the teen managed to call for help, she was unable to escape the car.

An active and popular student, Alyssa was a member of Devine High School’s cheerleading squad, as well as the tennis and volleyball teams. During her senior year, the teen was voted homecoming queen.

Alyssa Ramirez’s friends said she left the gala in high spirits. Tragically, the homecoming queen was killed in flood waters just a few miles from her home.

Alyssa’s aunt, Roberta Ramirez, said her niece inadvertently drove into high water, on FM 2200, as the road was not barricaded or blocked. According to reports, Alyssa’s vehicle stalled and was eventually swept away in the strong current.

As reported by Fox 29, she was able to make two phone calls before her vehicle saw swept away. Although she called her parents and 911, the car was gone when authorities arrived on scene.

Alyssa’s parents also searched the area. However, the vehicle was not found until the following morning. Roberta said Alyssa’s parents are devastated, but they remain strong in their faith that “she has her place in Heaven and they’ll meet her again soon.”

As reported by Huffington Post, the homecoming queen is one of at least 21 people who were killed amid the violent storms and flooding.

In Oklahoma and Texas, eight people were reported dead and at least 12 remain missing. Governor Greg Abbott declared 37 counties disaster areas, as hundreds of homes were destroyed and thousands were forced to evacuate. According to Abbott, the path of destruction is “absolutely massive.”

In Ciudad Acuna, Mexico, thirteen were killed and five remain missing following a devastating tornado — which was part of the the same storm system.

Mayor Evaristo Perez Rivera confirmed Rivera the deceased victims include three infants and ten adults. At least 300 others were injured in the massive twister, which touched ground and traveled nearly seven-blocks.

In Devine, Texas, the community is mourning the death of their homecoming queen, who was killed during the devastating storms. Alyssa Renee Ramriez’s family confirmed the teen’s funeral will take place on Wednesday morning at Devine’s First Baptist Church.
