Russell Brand Finally Mentions Katy Perry, Talks Gay Marriage, Reveals New Comedy Tour

Russell Brand has remained curiously quiet recently while news sites worldwide have been buzzing with Katy Perry’s revelation that the pair have not spoken since Russell Brand’s infamous text back in 2011 which simply stated that he was filing for divorce.

Until now, that is.

Russell Brand spoke openly in an interview with Australia’s Kyle and Jackie O Show on Monday, May 25, 2015, ahead of his upcoming comedy tour which includes New Zealand and Australia. The comedy show, called the “Trew World Order” is a mix of politics and humor, all hinged on Russell Brand’s self-proclaimed desire to start a revolution and bring the world together rather than driving people apart, News reported.

While Russell Brand has taken his comedy tour around the world, he has assured fans that he will include local political material, especially during his Australian shows. And it seems that he has some unusual plans for Australia’s prime minister Tony Abbott while he is in the country, too.

“There’ll be loads of stuff about your crazy Prime Minister, what’s his name? Tony Abbott. I might try and gay marry him when I get there. And we’ll be talking about the immigration situation.”

In another radio interview with Australia’s Kiis 1065 radio station, Russell Brand expressed the same sentiments towards Prime Minister Tony Abbott, just in slightly more aggressive terms, the UK Daily Mail reported.

“I would like to gay marry him so hard.”

By “the immigration situation,” Russell Brand is referring to the Australian government’s recent decision to deport Johnny Depp’s dogs after it was revealed that they were all but smuggled through customs and were being kept in Australia illegally.

“It seems Australia has a certain political will at the moment. I guess if you’ve got laws in a country you’ve got laws in a country, whether or not you’re rich or famous. You don’t want laws to be symbolic, you want laws to be functional.”

Russell Brand goes further, though, likening the deportation of Johnny Depp’s dogs to the increasingly out of control refugee situation in Australia.

“But I suppose what it highlights in reference to Australia is that those dogs were being flown back to America at great expense, while human beings are being kept in those crazy detention camps and being deterred from getting on boats or actually dying on boats while trying to get to Australia.”

In Monday’s radio interview, co-hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O managed to draw a comment from Russell Brand regarding Katy Perry’s recent revelations about the last time they spoke. The comment came after Jackie O asked Brand if he has someone who travels with him on his tours to keep him on the “straight and narrow.” Russell Brand’s response is the first that he has spoken of his ex-wife Katy Perry in a long time.

“Yeah, I’ve had one of those, it’s like a wife. Ruins everything.”

Kyle Sandilands’ response, referring to Brand’s sudden and – according to Katy Perry – unexpected request for divorce made Russell Brand laugh.

“You fixed that up quick smart I noticed.”

Russell Brand’s Australian tour is scheduled for the following dates and locations.

October 17 – Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne

October 18 – Adelaide Entertainment Centre

October 20 – Perth Arena

October 22 – Brisbane Entertainment Centre

October 23 – Sydney Opera House
