Cheating To Get Saved From Cheating—A ‘GTA V’ Victim Of Modding Gets Rescued By Another Modder

Sometimes, even in Grand Theft Auto (GTA V), desperate times call for desperate measures. Kotaku member Patricia Hernandez puts into the spotlight the story of a GTA V Online player who has to resort to cheating to get himself out of a cheater-induced pinch.

GTA V Player Rev Drucifer narrated his experience to Hernandez of getting caught in the middle of a cheater frenzy in the online platform of GTA V, which resulted to him being put on the Bad Sport pool—and not being able to get out of the sentence. To get out of his dilemma, he sought the expertise of another GTA modder.

Drucifer tells Hernandez that it all started to go awry when he got on the car with the modder.

“I’m in a car with this guy and money bags start raining down. I realize my account is filling up fast, so I jump out of the car…money is shooting out of my character’s [backside]. I’m yelling on the mic for him to stop, [but] he’s not stopping then all of a sudden [he] starts killing everyone in the lobby over and over.”

GTA V has been immensely popular for a couple of reasons—and one of those is because players can cook up all sorts of trouble. While there has been no limits for GTA V players on PC—thanks to mods getting approved for GTA V single player—Rockstar has been very adamant against modding while playing GTA V Online. This is to keep an equal playing field for all GTA V players.

However, there are, of course, those who refuse to abide by outstanding TOS and prefer to cause trouble not only for themselves, but for others as well. There are griefers, how they are fondly-called in the GTA V world, who love to cause trouble for others. Drucifer got caught in this particular incident where the griefer decided to spawn money from his GTA V character. This is a fairly common mod trick in GTA V, apart from money falling from the sky and shooting money from guns.

Of course, Drucifer’s pleas fell on deaf ears and in a few moments, he got kicked out of the GTA V Online lobby.

“Normally, you’ll get a warning when other players start voting to kick you, but there was no warning, I was just OUT. When I hit X to continue, it brought me to a Bad Sport lobby and I had $102,000,000 in my account. I had maybe a couple hundred thousand previously.”

A comment from MonsterMan asserts that while it was very unfortunate for Drucifer to have been caught in the middle of that frenzy, he could have just simply left the GTA V lobby right when the modder started tampering with his character.

But what happened, happened, and Drucifer got sent to the GTA V Bad Sport pool since the game flagged his character for the amount of money he amassed. However, instead of finding a decreasing timer while in his temporary sentence, his counter started going up. His counter started from three days and kept going up until it reached eight days and continued.

The Bad Sport lobby is a temporary penalty for players who cause too much trouble in GTA V. Another lobby in GTA V Online is the Cheater’s Pool, where cheaters and hackers are detained.

A couple of glitches on the Bad Sport timer are not uncommon in GTA V Online as well, with one instance reported on the Rockstar Support forums where the timer stuck on 0y0m0d after a month of suspension in GTA V Online.

After talking with Rockstar Support over the phone, Drucifer only got an e-mail from Rockstar, saying they could not do anything about his situation. With no options left, he approached another GTA V modder to get him out of his problem.

“I shot him a message telling him the situation. He said he’d give it a try but didn’t promise anything. Fifteen minutes later, I was out of Bad Sport.”

The said GTA V modder that Drucifer contacted actually used his modding skills to earn a couple of dollars, openly advertising on Facebook with GTA V packages and customer testimonials. Hernandez contacted the said GTA modder through Skype and confirmed that he did help out Drucifer from his situation.

A couple of fees settled later, Drucifer was back in the game. Maybe next time, he’ll take up on MonsterMan’s advice to immediately stay out of the way of people creating trouble to avoid getting in another pinch in GTA V Online.
