Maryland Woman Found Pushing Dead Son In A Swing At Park, Foul Play Is Not Expected At This Time

Officers with the Charles County Sheriff’s department in La Plata, Maryland, were called to Willis Memorial Park at approximately 6:55 a.m. regarding reports of a woman acting suspicious. When they arrived, they found the woman in question pushing her son in a swing. As they began to investigate further, the woman was acting odd. Upon inspection of the boy, they found that the woman’s three-year-old son was dead. Neighbors called the police because the woman seemed to be pushing the child in the swing at an odd hour and for a very long time.

The park is located on St. Mary’s Avenue and is a popular spot for children and parents to gather. However, the early morning visit to the park seemed out of character for the park’s normal traffic. The woman was also acting odd as she played with her son. When a neighbor noticed that the woman was pushing her son for an extremely long time, the decision to call the police was made. When officers arrived on the scene, they were shocked to find that the 24-year-old mother was pushing her dead son in the swing.

Upon investigation, according to WGRZ ABC, it is suspected that the woman may have been at the park since the previous day. The officers stated that it was obvious that the child had died.

The child was examined on the scene and there were no signs of trauma or anything that would point them to believe that foul play was involved. The child was taken to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy to be performed to determine the cause of death. They are hoping to gain more answers after the examination is complete.

Diane Richardson, a spokesperson for the Charles County Sheriff’s office, stated that the mother was taken to the local hospital for an examination as well, according to ABC News. It was stated that the woman was able to answer some questions on the scene, but was visibly shaken and not in the right mind to be completely clear with the police.

At this time it is not clear if the mother played a part in the child’s death or if it was due to natural causes. However, Richardson stated that the entire situation is tragic and sad, and she hopes the Sheriff’s office will obtain enough information soon to close the case.

“It’s a very sad and tragic situation for the mother, her family, the officers. All of us want answers. We’re working very hard on that.”
