Rick Harrison of ‘Pawn Stars’ Endorses Marco Rubio For President [Video]

Pawn Stars star Rick Harrison is getting behind the Marco Rubio for president campaign.

He is apparently “sold” on the U.S. Senator from Florida.

Harrison is co-owner of the World Famous Gold and Silver Pawn Shop and the guy who does most of the bargaining and negotiating shown at the Las Vegas venue on the hit History Channel reality television series. Harrison is assisted behind the counter by Big Hoss, the Old Man, and Chumlee. Pawn Stars is now in its 9th season on the cable television network

In discussing the 2016 presidential field on Fox and Friends today, Harrison disclosed that he was drawn to Rubio because the the GOP presidential hopeful is a pro-business straight shooter and one of the few politicians of either party that he’s encountered who is willing to put country first. “I’ve met him before…The entire time I talked to him he only wanted to talk about people and never mentioned the party once which was a really big deal to me… this guy honestly cares about [the] American people and free enterprise.”

Harrison has been an outspoken critic of what he considers intrusive government regulations that prevents entrepreneurs from building or expanding their businesses and having a shot at the American dream.

Drawing upon his knowledge of history which Pawn Stars viewers have seen on display during the reality show, Harrison explained that “If you look back, the number one thing that has always brought people out of poverty no matter where they are out in the world is the ease of doing business, and [Rubio] wants to make it easier to do business. It will bring people out of poverty and will do things for the economy, so I’m behind him.”

Harrison and his wife are hosting a Las Vegas campaign fundraiser at their home for Rubio on May 28 in conjunction with the senator’s 44th birthday. Harrison noted that Rubio lived in Las Vegas for a time as a boy when his parents worked in the city’s hospitality industry. Nevada’s Lt. Governor Mark Hutchison, who is chairing Rubio’s presidential campaign in that state, is co-hosting the event.

Pushing back against the criticism that Rubio (like Barack Obama in 2008) is just a first-term U.S. senator, Harrison declared that what the country needs is a “good leader … a very strong leader who is willing to speak his mind and put the right people in charge of things, and if they do a bad job, fire them.”

As far as his Marco Rubio endorsement, Pawn Stars boss Rick Harrison also quipped that it’s usually (career) suicide for a celebrity to endorse any Republican.

Added: According to The New York Times, Democrat strategists are worried about a Marco Rubio candidacy.

“Democrats express concerns not only about whether Mr. Rubio, 43, a son of Cuban immigrants, will win over Hispanic voters, a growing and increasingly important slice of the electorate. They also worry that he would offer a sharp generational contrast to Mrs. Clinton, a fixture in American politics for nearly a quarter-century who will turn 69 before the election.”
