‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Season 3 Spoilers: Skye’s New Responsibility And Where Simmons Is

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s second season may have only ended a couple of weeks ago, but that doesn’t mean that fans have to wait very long for a tease about what to expect next season. What happened to Simmons? Is Skye going to take on the new project?

In the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 2 finale, S.H.I.E.L.D. faced off against the Inhumans, with some of the latter having to pick sides – and Skye and Lincoln chose the agents. The end result, to stop Jiaying, saw Cal kill her so their daughter wouldn’t have to, and Skye ended up losing both her parents because Cal was sent off to live a normal life with no memory of who she is, thanks to the T.A.H.I.T.I. program. (Watch their goodbye below.) However, Skye does have something to look for career-wise: Coulson’s new project consisting of a team of enhanced people.

So is Skye really going to head up that project in Season 3? Entertainment Weekly spoke to Chloe Bennet about just that, and the actress is all for it, plus Skye may be the best person for the job.

“The Skye that I auditioned as is nothing close to the Skye that she has become. She’s maturing faster than I am. She was a hipper hacker in a van that was anti-S.H.I.E.L.D. and anti-government. Now she works for S.H.I.E.L.D., she’s an Inhuman, she has trained and understands why S.H.I.E.L.D. does what they do.”

Elsewhere in the Season 2 finale, Simmons admitted that she and Fitz do have something to talk about regarding his confession in the Season 1 finale, and the two even planned a dinner. However, while he was off finding them a restaurant, she got sucked in by the Kree stone, which retook its shape as though nothing had happened. Executive producer Jeffrey Bell explained to Variety that this showed the threat the stone poses.

“The idea of getting Fitz and Simmons — who had been one person — to become two whole people, come back together, agree to go on a date, and then have this happen, felt beautifully poetic and promises some really intriguing stories next season, which is really what it’s all about,” he said.

So while no one quite knows what’s going to happen to Simmons next, the good news is Elizabeth Henstridge will be in Season 3, and she even shared her theory with EW about what happened to her character.

“Part of me was thinking, if this is some sort of Inhuman thing then maybe this is like the mist, and it’s some sort of gel, and maybe I’ll have superpowers, but I don’t think I will. I think I’m somewhere. I think it transports me somewhere.”

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns for its third season this fall on ABC. You can catch up this summer, since Season 2 hits Netflix June 11, as previously reported by the Inquisitr.
