‘Destiny’ Trials Of Osiris: What You Need To Know

The Trials of Osiris competitive multiplayer mode for Destiny launched with the House of Wolves expansion this week. It’s a chance for PlayStation and Xbox owners to compete in a purely competitive multiplayer mode with the chance for big rewards. This guide will help you understand the setup and rules to help you make the most of your time.

When It Is Available

Trials of Osiris will run every Friday at 1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT through the weekly reset on Tuesday at approximately 5 a.m. ET / 2 a.m. PT.

How to Get In

You’ll need to purchase a Trials Passage from Brother Vance in the Reef using Passage Coins to be able to compete in the Trials of Osiris. Passage Coins can be obtained by completing one game in the daily Featured Crucible playlist. They will also drop as a loot reward while playing Crucible matches but the probability is low.

The Trials Passage essentially acts as a scorecard that tracks your wins and losses in Trials of Osiris. The goal is to reach nine wins, but you’re out once you get three losses.

You can compete in the Trials of Osiris as often as you like as long as you have the Passage Coins to purchase a Trials Passage.

Pre-Made Fireteams

You need to form your own three-man fireteam for Trials of Osiris. Destiny will match your team up with another though based on latency to each other.

I suggest checking out sites like DestinyLFG, Reddit Fireteams, and the100 if you need help forming a team.

Elimination Gametype

Trials of Osiris is an Elimination 3-versus-3 gametype played in rounds. Players can be revived by teammates, but there is no self-revive except for the Sunsinger Warlock’s Super.

The team that completely eliminates the opposition wins the round. The first team to win five rounds wins the match.

Rounds are on two-minute timers. Once the time limit is reached, a control point spawns in the center of the map. The team that captures the control point before the 2:30 mark wins the round. If neither team captures the control point then sudden death kicks in and the team with the player closest to the capture point wins the round.

Special Weapon ammo will spawn once per round. Heavy Weapon ammo will spawn once every four rounds 15 seconds after the start of a round. Unused Special and Heavy Weapon ammo will not carry over to the next round.

Super energy will carry over from round to round.

Power Level Matters

Like Iron Banner, Light level for armor and Damage level for weapons do matter. Bring your Sunday best to the Trials of Osiris.

Maps

The same map will be used during every match of a Trials of Osiris event. When a new event starts up on Friday, a new map will be used.

Buffs

There are three buffs that can be purchase from Brother Vance to help reach as many wins as possible. All three buffs can be active at the same time, but they cost 3 Passage Coins each.

  • Favor of Osiris – You will start the Trials with a win already awarded.
  • Mercy of Osiris – Your first loss in the Trials will be forgiven.
  • Boon of Osiris – Winning your first Trials match will count as two.

Rewards

In addition to the random drops that can be earned at the end of a Trails of Osiris match, players can also turn in their Trials Passage card to Brother Vance for additional rewards. What kind of reward you receive depends on the number of wins you earned.

A Legendary Armor piece can be purchased after five wins while a Legendary weapon can be picked up after seven wins. Both are weapons that are exclusive to Trials of Osiris.

There are also packages available at different win Tiers. The higher the tier, the greater the rewards.

  • Stone Tier – 2 Wins and 100 Glimmer – Rare rewards
  • Bronze Tier – 3 Wins and 100 Glimmer – Rare rewards
  • Legendary Armor – 5 wins and 250 Glimmer
  • Silver Tier – 6 wins and 100 Glimmer – Legendary rewards
  • Legendary Weapon – 7 wins and 500 Glimmer
  • Gold Tier – 8 wins and 100 Glimmer – Legendary rewards
