General Motors Steering Issue Leads To Recall Of 6,000 Vans and SUVs

General Motors on Sunday announced the immediately recall of 6,000 big vans ans SUVs because of an issue that can cause their steering to fail.

According to the company the steering issue involves certain models of the 2012 Chevrolet Express and GM’s Savana vans and the Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon XL SUVs.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released a report on Saturday through its website in which the organization said a gear shaft on the steering column can break, causing a complete loss of steering.

At this time no crashes or injuries have been reported however consumers are urged to bring their vehicles to their local GM dealership for a quick recall fix.

The gear shaft program was originally discovered by the company that makes the product for GM and General Motors technicians say the issue will not affect any vehicle that has not been in service for at least 5 months under “severe use.”

The fix is considered an immediate requirement, especially since the GM van line can transport up to 15 people at one time and are often used by airport shuttle services and church groups.

If a replacement gear shaft is required GM dealers will take care of that recall replacement at no charge to customers.

You can call your local GM dealer to determine if a GM parts recall has been issued on your vehicle should it match the models named above.

Have you had any issues with the steering column on any of the models listed above?
