WWE News: WWE NXT Champion Kevin Owens On If WWE Promised Him Anything Upon Signing

Instead of getting Finn Balor, the WWE Universe was introduced to Kevin Owens last night on WWE Raw. He came out to answer John Cena’s U.S. Open Challenge and made a huge impact on the U.S. champion. Cena and Owens never actually wrestled, but rather, Owens landed his finisher, the pop-up powerbomb, to the champ and left.

Kevin Owens reacted to his legendary WWE Raw debut last night on Twitter. After it was announced that he would face John Cena at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view on the WWE Network, he had this to say about the match and his future.

Owens is extremely motivated to make it big in the WWE. After Triple H brought him in last December, the former-Ring of Honor star debuted at a NXT Takeover special and never looked back. With his family behind him, Owens has his eyes on the prize, and that’s to be a WWE legend. Now, when Owens signed, it was a huge topic around the WWE Universe.

Internet marks always wonder, what did the WWE promise him when he signed? Was it a guaranteed main event spot in the future? Kevin Owens answered that question and was very blunt about what WWE told him he’d get.

“I was never promised anything but an opportunity to make my time here count. I got the tryouts, and when I was offered the contract, it wasn’t like, ‘Oh, we can’t wait to have you. Please sign with us.’ They offered me a deal, and all the fanfare and the name I’d garnered by my independent work, it obviously helped me get the tryout, but they didn’t offer me anything with a promise attached that I would ever go to the main roster or be featured on NXT even. With that said, I think I’ve done pretty good so far. [Laughs]”

As far as the pop Kevin Owens received last night, it was a mixed-bag of cheers and jeers from the WWE crowd.

It certainly wasn’t as large as a WWE NXT crowd, but those fans are mostly the Internet fans that have followed Owens for a long time. His career in WWE is already star-studded, which includes a WWE NXT championship, a match with John Cena at Elimination Chamber and a huge rub on WWE Raw by John Cena. Looks like he’s over with the WWE officials.
