Bristol Palin’s Wedding Cancelled: Rumors Over Fiance Dakota Meyer False, Says Sarah Palin

With Bristol Palin’s wedding cancelled, fiance Dakota Meyer has come under a lot of scrutiny in recent days. Some media outlets claim that the Medal of Honor recipient was “lying” about a “secret wife” he married several years ago. But Sarah Palin says all these rumors are false, and she left a message from Bristol explaining the circumstances.

In a related report by the Inquisitr, the official marriage license documents show that Bristol Palin’s fiance married Cassandra Wain in Campbellsville, Kentucky, when Meyer was just 19-years-old. Meyer’s lawyer confirmed that he was divorced in March of 2010, but a friend of Wain claimed Meyer was lying in some manner about his past.

For example, Raelyn Marie, who is friends with Erin Foster, the sister of Cassandra, wrote, “Tell the truth Dakota… Cassie doesn’t deserve to be in your mess.”

Bristol was also spotted not wearing her engagement ring in recent photos, which only fueled the rumor mill even further.

But Bristol Palin’s fiance was not hiding anything, according to the Facebook post written this morning by Sarah Palin.

“Regarding salacious headlines in recent days about ‘secret wives,’ Dakota and I discussed our past relationships prior to our engagement. Dakota was legally divorced years ago, as any good reporter could and should have disclosed to readers. As usual, false stories and dramatically written headlines begging controversy should be disregarded, and we have faith that our privacy will be respected at this time by those with decency. Thank you!”

Regardless, Bristol Palin’s wedding date was cancelled.

“Bristol and Dakota couldn’t be more thankful for the love and support of family and friends over the past months while preparing for their wedding. They have informed loved ones that unfortunately the announced celebration planned for May 23 will not be held.”

That is not to say that Bristol and Dakota Meyer are no longer engaged. The exact status of their relationship was never specified, and it is possible they are rescheduling in hopes of avoiding a media circus caused by rumors surrounding Bristol Palin’s fiance. Of course, it is also possible Bristol broke off the engagement after having second thoughts.

Either way, both families still plan on holding a party, so apparently there are no hard feelings.

“Many friends and family still look forward to getting together that day in Kentucky anyway – and the Palins and Meyers are happily looking forward to still being at ‘the old Kentucky home’ on May 23 to celebrate life, in general!” Sarah Palin explained. “Family members and close friends know they are welcome to share a great bar-b-que on the farm that day. All involved, especially Dakota, Bristol and Tripp, and their parents and grandparents, thank supporters for the love they’ve expressed.”

But some in the media do not believe what Sarah is saying. For example, PoliticalGates claims the message was intended only to “save face” and let Bristol Palin’s fiance off the hook easily.

“Do you really think that people will believe this? They “discussed” their “past relationships prior” to the engagement, but now, the wedding is cancelled? Also, the media is to blame? One would need to have a pea-sized brain to believe this, Sarah!… After all, the military circles are supposed to be at the center of the Palin-family income in the future. You had better not upset these people.”
