Class Pranks Teacher Into Showing ’50 Shades of Grey’ As Reward

A teacher in West Virginia may be one of only five people in the world who has never heard of 50 Shades of Grey. And her students manipulated that naiveté, convincing her to let them watch during class.

Luckily, an assistant principal instantly recognized the erotic flick on a pass by the classroom and shut down the prohibited showing before the young students got to see any bare skin, the Charleston Daily Mail reported.

The incident took place at Hampshire High School, though the grade level and the teacher’s name haven’t been revealed.

The clever – or cruel, depending on your viewpoint – class tricked her into letting them watch 50 Shades of Grey as a reward for good work, Fox News added.

Unfortunately, sex-free movies are actually prohibited at Hampshire High, forget about 50 Shades of Grey, a decidedly steamier movie than most, with numerous and lengthy sex scenes, graphic nudity, and racy BDSM.

Apparently, she had no idea the movie was primarily about sex. School administrators aren’t hinting at whether they believe her or intend to punish her – or the students – but school principal Jeff Woofter isn’t impressed with the excuse.

“I will say it was an extreme lack of judgment from an otherwise very capable (person). (She) didn’t do a background check on the movie or even ask about it. Fortunately, an assistant principal walked by and saw what they were doing. They got there 10 minutes after it started and shut it down.”

It’s certainly possibly that she hadn’t heard of 50 Shades of Grey and the book on which it’s based. Perhaps she doesn’t own a TV or get on the Internet, two lifestyle choices that certainly aren’t impossible.

But the Mail dug up an interesting stat about the film – West Virginians gave it the most Facebook likes, shares, and posts leading up to its Valentine’s Day release. Not to mention the fact that it was also the biggest opening ever for an R-rated film.

Which still makes the excuse a bit of a stretch. And the teacher’s supposed ignorance about its sexy content must have made for an embarrassing, and infuriating, moment when her prohibited film was discovered.

Perhaps it’s time to brainstorm ideas for another, more age appropriate class reward.
