Ed Asner Divorce: Actor, 85, Divorcing Wife 8 Years After Separating, Sparks Negative Comments
Ed Asner has officially filed for divorce after being separated for eight years. The actor, 85, divorcing his wife has come as quite a shock to some and has garnered negative feedback and hateful comments from fans.
The Mary Tyler Moore Show actor married Cindy Gilmore in 1998. However, something went sour in their relationship, and in 2007 they decided to separate. However, neither party filed the proper paper work to finalize the divorce. Cindy originally filed for separation, citing irreconcilable differences, however in 2008 it was rumored that the real reason for the separation was because Asner had allegedly threatened to cut off her alimony payment.
According to NewsOxy, Asner claimed Cindy didn’t put forth enough effort to become self supporting. In 2008 legal documents, Asner reportedly said, “[If Cindy] doesn’t get off the couch and update her resume, he’ll cut off her alimony payments,” according to the Examiner.
“He alleged she wasn’t attempting to become self supportive? She’s seventy nine now, she was seventy one on the time of the cut up…..kinda onerous to get a job at SEVENTY ONE. seems like he’s off his rocker, and a bitter previous man,” one reader wrote, according to World News. “Now Not stunned.”
In 2009, the couple finally came to a financial agreement, however they never finalized their divorce.
