Joshua Lehrer wanted his proposal to Alicia Enstad to be unforgettable. However, even Lahrer was surprised by the special proposal, thanks to happenstance and a quick-thinking choir coach.
Alicia Enstad and Joshua Lehrer’s engagement began with Lahrer planning an elaborate engagement that would end at St. Paul’s Rice Park in Minnesota. The start of the proposal was a big questionable, according to KMSP, due to Alicia getting off work late. However, Joshua didn’t allow the late start to dampen his plans. He sent a limo to pick up Alicia and her sister for what was thought to be a “girl’s night out.” Once in the limo, Alicia’s sister handed her a card that read, “First stop: Nail salon.”
The pair made their way to a nail salon for a manicure, and then a second note was given to the surprised Alicia which read, “You are going to be going to the Mall of America. Pick out the outfit of your choice. P.S. don’t forget to put it on.” After donning her new dress, Alicia opened her final envelope containing encouraging words about her final destination.
“You’re so beautiful, I love you so much, and relax because your drive is going to take you to your assigned destination.”
The limo then dropped Alicia off at Rice Park where she saw Joshua, her parents, and soon-to-be in-laws waiting with bouquets of flowers. Joshua then dropped to a knee and asked if Alicia would marry him. Of course, the blushing bride-to-be said yes, but the magical moment wasn’t quite over. As chance would have it, the Angelica Cantanti youth choir, dressed in formal attire, entered the park as Joshua proposed to Alicia. The choir director jumped on the chance to make the special moment even better and gave the couple a private performance of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”.
“He got down on one knee, proposed and I said yes, of course. And this choir surrounded us and started singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow and I was like, ‘Josh did you get us a choir?’ And he was like, ‘I didn’t know anything about it, but let’s just sit and listen.’ “
Alicia and Joshua were both shocked by the amazing up-close performance for their special day, and say that the song holds a special place in their hearts. Joshua says though he did not plan for the choir to be present, it made the whole proposal all the more magical. Choir director says the proposal was “just a good excuse” to practice the song again, as the choir had just got done rehearsing the song in the nearby Ordway, but it will forever be more to the couple and the fairy tale proposal made all the more special by the group of singing teens.
