39% of illinois Republicans Think Obama is a Muslim

Chicago, Illinois- President Obama is a Chicago guy through and through. He has a house in Chicago and he represented Illinois in the Senate. He is a huge Bulls fan. Yet almost half of Republicans surveyed have their doubts about one thing…Obama’s religion.

Public Policy Polling surveyed 506 likely GOP primary voters March 17 and 18, and found that 39 percent of them believe that Obama is a Muslim. In addition to those who think Obama is a Muslim, there are still quite a few birthers out there as well with 36% of those surveyed saying they don’t believe Obama was born in the United States. Also among those surveyed, 89% of them disapproved of the job that Obama was doing as President.

While the numbers pale in comparison to a similar poll conducted in Mississippi — where 52 percent of GOP voters classified Obama as a Muslim and 36 percent said they were “not sure” — it does highlight the differences between Chicago Democrats and downstate Republican voters.

In many interviews, President Obama has let the birther and Muslim rumors slide off his back and not giving them too much thought.

“I’m not gonna be worrying too much about whatever rumors are floating on out there. If I spend all my time chasing after that, then I wouldn’t get much done. I can’t spend all my time with my birth certificate plastered on my forehead.”

It was revealed earlier this week that in a huge speech Obama blamed Fox News for the perception that he is a Muslim. No one could find a record of any newscaster at the Conservative network saying they thought Obama was a Muslim.
