‘The Walking Dead’ Actor, Seth Gillam, Falls From Grace

Fans of AMC‘s The Walking Dead will know Seth Gillam as Father Gabriel, the priest who holed himself up in a church rather than help his parishioners against the onslaught of walkers in the hit zombie TV series.

According to Variety magazine, Seth Gillam may have his own personal demons when the actor was reportedly arrested last Sunday. The actor was pulled over in Peachtree City, Georgia, after police recorded him driving at speeds of up to 107 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. Police allegedly quizzed the Walking Dead star – who also plays a police officer in The Wire – about being able to smell alcohol within the vehicle. TMZ, who broke the news, claim Seth admitted to drinking three beers and a shot. TMZ also state Seth blew a.107 blood alcohol test. Police then found a marijuana cigarette inside the car, which resulted in the arrest of Gillam.

Peachtree City is close to where filming was scheduled to start for Season 6 of The Walking Dead on May 4, so it will be interesting to see how Seth Gillam’s arrest will affect the life span of his character on the show. Meanwhile, Walking Dead fans are already making jokes about Seth perhaps driving while under the influence because fellow Walking Dead character Carol Peletier was in hot pursuit.

However, according to Brett Martin’s book, Difficult Men: Behind the Scenes of a Creative Revolution: From The Sopranos to Mad Men to Breaking Bad, it may be unsurprising Gillam has fallen from grace with reports there was a core group of cast members of The Wire that would head to a section of Baltimore (near where they were filming) that contained strip clubs.

“The cast of The Wire became legendary visitors to the Block, with a core group including West, Gilliam, Lombardozzi, Pierce, Andre Royo (Bubbles), J.D. Williams (Bodie), and Sonja Sohn (Kima)—holding her own among the boys in one of many on- and off-screen parallels.”

Seth Gillam has been released after the actor posted the $9,818 bail. There has been no confirmation of Seth turning up for his first day on set. However, it leaves fans left contemplating the fact that sometimes life imitates art as Gillam seems to be just as tortured as his current character on The Walking Dead, Father Gabriel. Especially since the end of Season 5 saw Father Gabriel warn the leader of Alexandria against his travelling companions – even though Father Gabriel was potentially just as guilty of crimes against humanity as Rick Grimes and his group.
