KONY 2012 Creator, Jason Russell Detained by Police [Video]

Jason Russell, the creator of the Kony 2012 video which has been a viral sensation on YouTube, was detained by police and sent to a local hospital for an evaluation police sources said.

Russell was filmed (video below) pounding his fists against the sidewalk completely naked today and at the time he was screaming his head off. The police have denied to confirm that is was Russell that was detained but it was confirmed by the video. In addition, Ben Keesey, CEO of Invisible Children, posted an online statement confirming that there had been an incident involving Russelll.

Keesey wrote,

“Jason Russell was unfortunately hospitalized yesterday suffering from exhaustion, dehydration, and malnutrition. He is now receiving medical care and is focused on getting better. The past two weeks have taken a severe emotional toll on all of us, Jason especially, and that toll manifested itself in an unfortunate incident yesterday. Jason’s passion and his work have done so much to help so many, and we are devastated to see him dealing with this personal health issue. We will always love and support Jason, and we ask that you give his entire family privacy during this difficult time.”

Russell created the 30-minute film featuring himself, his son, Gavin, and a former child soldier from Uganda named Jacob. Last week, the film received more than 100 million views on Youtube and has made the name of Joseph Kony, leader of the Lord’s Resistance Army a household name. Over the last two weeks the organization has been slammed by critics for being overly simplistic in the video and for their financial lack of transparency.

Do you think it is important that Jason Russell was detained by police or should we all give him a little privacy.
