New Kurt Cobain Album Is Not Nirvana, May Include Courtney Love Music, Beatles Cover Songs

A new Kurt Cobain album is already being hailed as the next big thing from the Nirvana singer after dying 21 years ago. But will lost recordings like music made with Courtney Love and Beatles cover songs be enough to interest fans?

In a related report by the Inquisitr, Kurt Cobain’s daughter, Francis Bean, has been discussing her life after his untimely death, and she admits she prefers Oasis to Nirvana. If you find that a little odd, consider the man who says Kurt did not die, that he’s really alive, and that he faked his suicide with Courtney Love’s help so that he could live in peace for a while.

Director Brett Morgen, who is working on the soon to be released Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, says he may have found something a little bit odder for to listen to after digging through Kurt’s old stuff. Courtney Love gave Morgen permission to go through Kurt’s belongings that have been locked away in an industrial storage room for all these years.

“I go and open a box and out comes a big collection of videotapes. Nobody had mentioned to me there were going to be videotapes or home videos there, so that was a big find. And then I opened up another box and there were 107 cassettes featuring over 200 hours of never-before-heard or rarely heard music — I mean I would lean heavily of the never-before-heard, probably 95 percent. And nobody had told me about that. And it goes to show you that it’s not really the size or the quantity, because obviously cassettes and film don’t take up a lot of space. So even though the boxes looked rather small they contained a treasure chest of material that would serve as the foundation for Montage of Heck.”

Besides turning this material into a movie, he decided a new Kurt Cobain album was a good idea after he spent so much time combing through 200 hours of audio.

“We’re going to be putting out an amazing album this summer that I think will answer that question,” Morgen said, according to Bedford + Bowery. “It will feel like you’re kind of hanging out with Kurt Cobain on a hot summer day in Olympia, Washington as he fiddles about. It’s going to really surprise people. Just to be clear, it’s not a Nirvana album — it’s just Kurt and you’re going to hear him do things you never expected to come out of him.”

The new Kurt Cobain album’s release date is already being set for the summer of 2016. Although Morgen did not tell everyone what exactly will be on it, he did say that these audio recordings include jam sessions with Courtney Love and Nirvana and Beatles cover songs in addition to his first demo tapes.
