Dad Charlie Nesbitt Shames School For Son’s Bullying, But School Is Fighting Back: Who’s Telling The Truth?

Charlie Nesbitt is no stranger to bullying, he says.

The dad, who kicked up a hornet’s nest by calling out Methuen Public Schools in Massachusetts for bullying his son (pictured above) was subjected to, still has painful memories from his own experiences.

He shared some of those experiences on his Facebook page, noting that the bullying he experienced was in the fifth grade.

“They made my parents take me to counseling and when I still refused to go back, they said I was school phobic,” he said. “I’ll never forget how alone I felt when there was no one to stop the kid from punching my face. I never got bullied again after I got beat real bad but I’ve never been the same.”

That’s what led him to “take a stand” for his son, he said, when the boy came home from an altercation at Methuen in April.

Charlie Nesbitt posted pictures of his bruised and battered son with a caption that criticized the school. He also said that he’d issued several complaints that his son was being bullied.

However, Methuen is not backing down in its claims that it did nothing wrong in the situation, and it indirectly seems to be calling out Nesbitt for his “unacceptable” actions.

In a letter signed by Timothy J. Miller, supervising principal at Timony Grammar School, the school leader had this to say.

“I feel it is important to note that the manner in which this incident was reported and shared through a variety of social media sites was unacceptable. Many of the comments made were inaccurate and based on rumor and innuendo. I am shocked at the complete lack of respect shown to some of our finest teachers and staff members.”

Miller does not mention Nesbitt by name, but does say that “teachers and administrators were aware of the situation and acted immediately and appropriately. Specific information about the incident cannot be shared due to privacy laws and respect for the young students and families involved.”

Some at the Eagle Tribune comments section have criticized Charlie Nesbitt for hurling accusations at the school knowing that they cannot legally defend themselves by getting into the specifics of the situation.

He has also been called a litigious father by some commenters, who point to the GoFundMe that he set up for his family shortly after the media attention took hold.

Currently, it’s up to $485 in support out of a target goal of $20,000 for “attorneys fees, relocating, and possibly a private Christian school for my boys.”

He has since said that he would be giving the donations to The Bully Project instead.

Do you think that Charlie Nesbitt is blowing the situation out of proportion, or were Methuen Schools negligent in the alleged bullying incident?
