Photo Of Young Boy Offering Bottles Of Water To Police In Baltimore Goes Viral

A photo of a young boy handing out bottles of water to police officers in Baltimore has gone viral, reminding the nation that not everyone in the city is bad.

Bishop M. Cromartie, a senior pastor at Prophetic Deliverance Ministries, took the picture and uploaded it to Facebook on Tuesday, April 28 as he and others worked on cleaning up the streets after a night of rioting.

“One of many pictures that I captured today in the midst of helping clean up the city and it speaks VOLUMES #baltimore,” Cromartie captioned the photo. The photo, which has since gone viral, had garnered over 67,000 shares on Facebook.

Cromartie told Bustle that he sees the photo as “a way to show that Baltimore is not as bad and that the people who riot are just a handful, that clearly you have, statewide, people who actually care.”

The boy, Cromartie said, was acting alone and was not told to do so by anyone else.

“He actually was the only one handing out water — that stood out by himself — and what was so intriguing was he was doing it on his own. It showed that he had a mind of his own that, despite everything that was going on, that he still wanted to make sure the police were okay and he may be realizing that someday he’s going to need the police. The police officer did not take the water and I didn’t expect him to. I would not take it considering what’s going on and how people are feeling.”

After the boy’s photo of generosity swept the nation, more people started helping the police officers, offering them pizzas and other items.

“It’s just kind of crazy that people began to do it — to help officers — after they saw the photo,” Cromartie said.

The citizens of Baltimore are working hard to clean up their community, along with people across the nation who have come to help their efforts.

“People from out of state, young people, old people; it has become beyond a Baltimore thing. We have people from Detroit, I met a few people I think from California,” Cromartie added.
