HBO’s new movie “Game Change” has its fair share of haters for how it portrays Sarah Palin and John McCain, but most critics agree that Julianne Moore’s portrayal of the former Alaska Governor is spot on.

The Denver Post writes that Moore’s performance as Palin is Emmy worthy, saying: ”Julianne Moore captures the serious side of candidate Palin’s public face in an Emmy-worthy performance.”

Liz Smith at the Chicago Tribune writes that if “Game Change” were produced as a feature film, Moore would easily be taking home an Oscar. Smith writes:

“I note that if this had been produced as a feature film and not a TV movie, Julianne Moore would win the Oscar hands down for the year. Nobody could have better replicated Alaska’s governor with more ego, charm, sex appeal, wrongheadedness and pathos… Julianne’s performance is simply breathtaking.”

Moore definitely worked hard to get Palin’s speech and mannerisms down for the new movie. The four time Oscar nominee said:

“The first thing I did was hire a vocal coach because, for me, she has an incredibly idiosyncratic way of speaking…. I watched her on television and listened to her voice. I tried to do the best I could to (play her).

Here’s a clip of Moore doing her best Sarah Palin in “Game Change.”

Did you watch “Game Change?” What did you think of Julianne Moore’s performance?

As far as the actual movie goes, critics can’t seem to decide if the it’s accurate, satirical, or insulting. Hank Stuever writes at The Washington Post that a person’s political stance will highly influence their opinion of “Game Change.” Stuever writes:

”Like its star character [Sarah Palin], the movie can be interpreted a number of ways, depending on your vantage point. If you are eternally baffled by Palin’s rise, then please enjoy the horror flick. If you harbor sympathy for someone who was plucked from near-obscurity and thrust into an impossible 11-week frenzy far beyond her skills or education, then it’s a psychological thriller. If you’re just a politics wonk, then it’s basically porn.”

Did you watch “Game Change?”

  1. I was thinking Moore deserved an Academy Award myself. She is frighteningly good.

  2. I thought JM was supurb as Palin-she played the part with subtlty, finesse and honesty-she is such a beautiful woman and her parts always exude a sense of total engagement with the work-Love Julianne (Palin not so much)-Ed Harris wasn't bad but somehow lacked that sense of bordeline insanity McCain always has-Woody sure dominated every scene he was in…

  3. Moore's portrayel of ex-governor Quitty-Pants is a waste of talent.

Frankly, I expected rather clownish portrayals of the politicians involved. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised at the seriousness and pathos presented. They did a good job.

  5. I THOUGH MOORE WAS EXCELLENT AND THE MOVIE WAS ALSO. AN ACURATE POTRAYAL….

  6. How did they make Moore ugly enough to look like Palin? Must have been a shitload of make up.

  7. A great performance, I was hardly able to tell it's an actress and not the real Palin on screen. Also, I really felt sorry for John McCain here. As for truthfulness, I don't know and nobody who wasn't there can say they know, but from the state of politics and politicians in this country at the present time, I can certainly imagine that the behind-the-scene portrayal was relatively accurate. And from what I have seen of the real Sarah Palin on TV, I could certainly imagine that her portrayal in this movie was pretty close to the truth.

  8. now why the hell would anyone really give a crap about anything that comes from hollywood these days?

  9. Good acting, but sure that many morons out there will see this as historical truth, like many other fictional movies portraying real life characters(with a Left-wing slant). Then there are just haters like Claudine Willis top commenter from Portland OR.

  10. You are just a hater. Hate! Hate! Hate!

  11. I wouldn't say that all the scenes were historically accurate.

  12. Very good performance by Moore. I am not a Palin fan and considered her a real lightwieght in 2008. I had previously voted for Mccain but could not because of Palin and his pandering to the far left. This was the McCain I knew before 2008 and as for Palin, I came away feeling sympathy for her and her family. I guess she should have known she was over her head, but we all make mistakes. I guess the fact that she does not fade away now is a testament of how she was portrayed in the film. ego rules.
