Pope Benedict XVI Condemns Gay Marriage

pope benedict xvi

In the last few months, the LGBT community has had several victories in the United States. Prop 8 was ruled unconstitutional and several states have started to consider legalizing gay marriage. Pope Benedict XCI doesn’t like the direction that the United States is heading.

In a speech to U.S. bishops, Pope Benedict XVI spoke out against the “powerful” gay marriage lobby in the United States.

The Pope said:

“(We cannot bow to the) powerful political and cultural currents seeking to alter the legal definition of marriage…. Sexual differences cannot be dismissed as irrelevant to the definition of marriage…. Young people need to encounter the church’s teaching in all its integrity, challenging and countercultural as that teaching may be; more importantly they need to see it embodied by faithful married couples who bear convincing witness to truth.”

UticaOD reports that the Pope also commented on the current birth control issue in the United States and urged Catholica in America to rediscover the values of chastity and to resist premarital sex.

Pope Benedict XVI said:

“(Living together outside of marriage) is gravely sinful, not to mention damaging to the stability of society… The contemporary crisis of marriage and the family… has led to grave societal problems bearing an immense human and economic cost… Marriage and the family are institutions that must be promoted and defended from every possible misrepresentation of their true nature.”

How can you discriminate regarding Gay Marriage. The Catholic Church is ruled by people, including the Pope, who do not engage in love, sex or marriage so I wonder where their expetise comes from when it comes to marriage. I challenge the Catholic Church to justify their ruling of comndeming Gay Marriage. I am a hetrosexual woman who has no problems with Gay people marrying and raising children. As a young child I was raised with a mother and father in a very violent alcoholic life style and this was seen as ok…. I wanted anyone to take me away…I can tell you now if a Gay couple had offerd me a new life with them I would have taken it because my life was full of violence, no love etc. The Pope (and I direct this to the current POPE) should try to be in touch with people and their issues this includes those Gay people who wish to be recognised and accepted. The Pope has no idea how of people in general. Pope Benedict XCI is so out of touch and really needs to be more understanding, reaching out to the people, and to have a new way that embraces HUMILITY towards all including GAY people. Otherwise many will abandon the Cathoilic way of life… Lynn-Joy Scrutton
