Pope Benedict XVI Condemns Gay Marriage

In the last few months, the LGBT community has had several victories in the United States. Prop 8 was ruled unconstitutional and several states have started to consider legalizing gay marriage. Pope Benedict XCI doesn’t like the direction that the United States is heading.

In a speech to U.S. bishops, Pope Benedict XVI spoke out against the “powerful” gay marriage lobby in the United States.

The Pope said:

“(We cannot bow to the) powerful political and cultural currents seeking to alter the legal definition of marriage…. Sexual differences cannot be dismissed as irrelevant to the definition of marriage…. Young people need to encounter the church’s teaching in all its integrity, challenging and countercultural as that teaching may be; more importantly they need to see it embodied by faithful married couples who bear convincing witness to truth.”

UticaOD reports that the Pope also commented on the current birth control issue in the United States and urged Catholica in America to rediscover the values of chastity and to resist premarital sex.

Pope Benedict XVI said:

“(Living together outside of marriage) is gravely sinful, not to mention damaging to the stability of society… The contemporary crisis of marriage and the family… has led to grave societal problems bearing an immense human and economic cost… Marriage and the family are institutions that must be promoted and defended from every possible misrepresentation of their true nature.”
