Alan Thicke: “Kirk Cameron Needs New Reading Material”

Actor Alan Thicke has taken to Twitter in regards to anti-gay comments made by his former TV son, Kirk Cameron.

In his appearance, Friday, on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight, Cameron – a self-professed devout follower of Jesus – called homosexuality unnatural and destructive.

“I think that it’s unnatural. I think that it’s detrimental and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization,” Kirk explained to Piers. “One man, one woman for life till death do you part….So do I support the idea of gay marriage? No, I don’t.”

Besides the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), who quickly condemned Cameron’s views following the Piers interview, several stars weighed in via Twitter, attacking Kirk’s religious teachings.

“I’m getting him some new books. The Old Testament simply can’t be expected to explain everything,” Alan Thicke tweeted, Monday, in response to Cameron’s remarks.

Thicke and Cameron played father and son on the sitcom, Growing Pains, which ran on ABC from 1985-1992.

Tracy Gold, who played Cameron’s Growing Pains sister, also took to Twitter to distance herself from Cameron’s comments.

Gold wrote:

“I am a strong supporter of the #LGBT Community, and I believe in equal rights for all.”

One actor who actually sided with Cameron is actor Stephen Baldwin.

“GREAT JOB Kirk !!! Let’s pray one day Piers Morgan finds true Salvation, God Bless!” he tweeted.

Cameron became known for his Christian evangelicalism once Pains ended its television run. He is one of the founders of the ministry, The Way of the Master.
