LGBT Photo & ‘Homophobic Rant’ Go Viral, But Things Are Not What They Seem

On Wednesday, a Brazilian man posted a photo on Facebook of two women lovingly embracing on a subway platform. He then proceeded to add what sounds like a homophobic rant. However, there is more to the story and the post has gone viral on the social platform.

In the rant, Nelson Felippe points out that he is not a “prejudiced man” and that he thinks everyone can do what they want in life. However, he added that he found it absurd to witness a scene like this.

“What you do yourself is your problem, but what you do in public concerns me, yes. And I refuse to see a scene like that and consider it normal.”

Felippe continues that he doesn’t wish evil on anyone, but that “humanity should be preserved.” He said that “[c]hallenging social conventions, like this, can be dangerous.” Sounds like a homophobic rant so far.

He said should there be an accident, or worse, if somebody died, who would be blamed, and that the “worst part of all is the example it sets for the children.”

According to the Daily Mail, many people only read up to about this point in his post before responding with negative comments, telling Felippe he is homophobic and should be ashamed of himself. They should have continued to read the post before making any comment.

What Felippe asks next is, “What will go on in the head of a child who sees this scene every day?”

However, he continues by saying children will think it is a normal thing to wait for the train, standing on the yellow line, so close to the track.

“So, do not behave like that guy over there. Follow the example of the girls.

“Wait for the subway before the yellow line, and only approach the track after the subway is stopped and the doors are open.”

When looking at the photo a man can be seen, towards the back of the crowd, standing directly on that yellow line.

The photo and the accompanying post on Facebook, which looks like a homophobic rant and is in the Portuguese language, promptly went viral and has now received almost 15,000 likes at the time of writing. It has been shared over 5,000 times.

In this busy world, where people skim things over, many people neglected to read the post to the end and dubbed Felippe a homophobe for his “homophobic rant.” However, those who did bother to read the post in its entirety commend him for his statement.

In other news of a homophobic nature, the Inquisitr tells the story of a male Toronto police officer who died his hair pink to fight against both bullying and homophobia.
