‘Freaks And Geeks’ Cast To Reunite For TV Land

It’s been 15 years since Freaks and Geeks premiered on NBC, and since then, every member of the cast has taken over Hollywood in some fashion. Now, Jason Segel, David Gruber Allen, Seth Rogen, Busy Philipps, Sam Levine, Steve Bannos, and Linda Cardellini will all reunite for the 2015 TV Land Awards.

This isn’t the first time the cast has reunited. Back in 2011, the cast all created the gym high school photo and multiple portrait sessions as part of Vanity Fair’s photo shoot. Prior to that, most of the cast reunited at the PaleyFest sans Franco due to his Oscar hosting rehearsals.

According to Cinema Blend, this reunion is special because TV Land is honoring the cast with a 15th Anniversary Award. This special appearance will tape on April 11 and will air on April 18. In addition to Freaks and Geeks, it will feature other series, such as The Wonder Years and Ally McBeal, and icons Donny and Marie Osmond will receive the Pop Culture Award.

As you may know, Freaks and Geeks was canceled during its first season due to low ratings. Then as it gained traction, fans discovered it via DVD and Netflix, which made it a cult hit that spans generations.

Freaks and Geeks’ executive producer, Judd Apatow, spoke about how he felt when the series ended.

“I felt like a father to everybody, and I felt like everyone’s world was about to collapse. I felt responsible, like I had to fight to have it survive so that their lives would be O.K., so that their careers could get launched. And so to completely fail was devastating to me.”

The excitement for this reunion isn’t too surprising. Since the show was canceled, the cast has all gone on to do great things. James Franco is a consummate renaissance man in every sense of the word, Jason Segel found success both in front and behind the camera — he starred in the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother and brought back The Muppets — and Seth Rogen has all but reinvented dude bro comedy over the last 10 years.

Due to the cast’s visibility in Hollywood, fans are already buzzing around the reunion on TV Land.
