Scott Eastwood Talks PETA Protests, Shirtless Workouts And ‘The Longest Ride’

Scott Eastwood, son of Oscar-winning director and movie star Clint Eastwood, has been making plenty of headlines with his roles in upcoming films and his ever increasing shirtless appearances. Paparazzi caught Eastwood without shoes and shirt during an impromptu workout session last month. “I didn’t have any workout clothes at the time and I needed to get a quick workout in,” he explained to People

Eastwood is set to star in the upcoming Nicholas Sparks film, The Longest Ride. In a recent interview, Eastwood discussed how a photo shoot back in 2013 brought him into the spotlight and was a turning point in his career.

“That photo shoot definitely got a lot of attention,” he told USA Today. “You don’t know what’s going to break you out. You just keeping working hard.”

It’s not just hard work that’s paying off for the newfound hunk. His looks and family associations have also helped paved the way to his first big role. In The Longest Ride, Scott Eastwood plays professional bull rider Luke Collins, who gets romantic with a scholarly college girl named Sophia Danko, played by co-star Britt Robertson.

Eastwood’s appearance in the new film isn’t the only aspect of The Longest Ride that is garnering attention. Both Eastwood and Danko were both confronted by protesters from PETA at the premiere of the new film. PETA’s main gripe about the movie is its glorification of bull riding.

“[Writer] Nicholas Sparks should stick to long-lost lovers kissing in the rain, because there’s nothing romantic about violence to animals,” Delcianna Winders, the deputy general counsel for PETA explained to The Wrap. “The rodeo is a disgusting show in which pathetic people bully terrified animals who are simply trying to escape their abusers.”

In regards to the protests, Eastwood promised that the bulls featured in the film were handled with care.

“We had the Humane Society on the whole time on the film, making sure everything was up to snuff,” Scott explained to Entertainment Tonight. “They made sure none of the bulls got hurt.”

Meanwhile, Scott is also gearing up for additional roles in Oliver Stone’s Snowden, which is set to be released in December 2015, and in the DC supervillain flick Suicide Squad, which will come out in August 2016.

With all the attention he’s received recently, Eastwood remained cautious about his success. “You never believe your own hype. As quick as somebody can be ‘the guy’ in Hollywood, he can be gone the next minute.”

The Longest Ride, featuring Scott Eastwood, will hit theaters April 10.
