Vanessa Hudgens Reveals Downside Of Dating Zac Efron, Why She Got ‘Fed Up’

Vanessa Hudgens recently revealed why her relationship with Zac Efron didn’t work out, and their split had nothing to with those infamous leaked nude photos. According to Vanessa, Zac’s obsessive female fans turned her into a jealousy-filled rage monster.

During a recent interview with the New York Times, Vanessa Hudgens opened up about how tough it was to date a heartthrob.

“I went through a phase when I was really mean because I was so fed up,” Hudgens revealed. “Girls were running after him, and I was giving them death stares. Then I realized that’s not what that’s about. ‘Spread the love, be a good person, they support you, be nice.'”

The High School Musical costars started dating in 2005, and they decided to call it quits in 2010. Even though Vanessa Hudgens had a hard time with all the attention Zac Efron received from other girls, it didn’t stop her from getting involved with another guy with a large female fan base — Vanessa would go on to date Hunger Games star Josh Hutcherson.

According to E! News, Vanessa learned another hard lesson about the perils of dating a cute superstar costar after she and Josh stumbled through an extremely awkward promotional interview for Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. A Sydney news anchor assumed that Hudgens and Hutcherson were still dating, and they had to inform him that they were no longer together. You can check out the cringe-inducing clip below.

At the time of the above interview, Vanessa Hudgens was dating The Carrie Diaries star Austin Butler. Austin and Vanessa are still together, and hopefully, Austin knows that their relationship isn’t successful simply because he isn’t as ridiculously good looking as Zac Efron. Instead of complaining about her current boyfriend being too hot, now Vanessa is defending the way he looks. As the Inquisitr previously reported, she had to stand up for Austin Butler after Jay Leno labeled him a “big, fat guy” (don’t worry — the talk show host was just joking about the actor’s fit physique).

During her New York Times interview, Vanessa Hudgens revealed that Austin Butler is so much more than just a hot bod and pretty face to her — she actually credited her boyfriend with helping her to reconnect with her Christian faith by turning her on to the Hillsong megachurch.

“It feels like Arcade Fire — it’s epic like that. They really focus on you having your own personal relationship with Jesus, which is wonderful.”

Like Vanessa Hudgens, Zac Efron is also currently in a serious relationship. After enjoying a summer fling with Furious 7 star Michelle Rodriguez, Efron became involved with model Sami Miró. During an interview with Elle, Sami shared her own thoughts on what it’s like to date a teen idol.

“I’ve never spoken about us before, but, um, it’s definitely different. I think that you have to take that [kind of attention] with a grain of salt, and put yourself in other people’s positions. I think that’s actually a really big part of it, putting yourself in their shoes, and trying to understand where they’re coming from, and then it kinds of makes sense. It kind of just comes with the territory, and I know there’s no really changing that, so you have to just embrace it.”
