Jada Pinkett Smith Gets Tribute, Hubby Gets Handsy

Jada Pinkett Smith was all smiles at the Black Girls Rock! show on Saturday, which was hosted by BET. The actress and musician earned the Star Power award, which was given to her by husband Will Smith. Pinkett Smith gave an acceptance speech that touched upon her role as a mom and how important events like Black Girls Rock! are.

Smith accepted the award from her husband–who gave her a deep kiss and a backside-grab onstage–and mentioned her daughter Willow in her speech, as well as First Lady Michelle Obama, who was also on hand for the celebration. Will Smith actually used the forum to touch briefly upon his relationship with Jada, recalling the time he read on Google that she had allegedly filed for divorce. The news was false, but made him think about what life would be like without her.

The couple have been in the news off and on for months now, reportedly on the verge of a breakup, and Will Smith told The Sun last month that in order to have a successful marriage, both parties have to be okay with change.

“Whatever you have is gonna die and you are gonna have to rebirth something new. You have to be willing to ride the waves. There’s gonna be some flat days and some stormy days, and that has to be OK,” Smith said.

Jada Pinkett Smith commended events such as Black Girls Rock! and remarked on a recent incident regarding Little League World Series star Mo’ne Davis being called a “slut” on Twitter by a fellow athlete. Davis responded by asking for a reprieve for the young man, who was suspended from his team.

“We have a long way to go,” Pinkett Smith said before praising Davis. “If you want people to treat you like a queen, you have to act like one.”

Jada recently revealed on Live With Kelly And Michael that she won’t be returning to her role on Gotham next season, much to the disappointment of her fans.

“I don’t think so, no. I signed for a year, and the year is up. But, there are some great things coming ahead on Gotham — believe you me, there’s a lot of good stuff coming,” she said.

Not to worry, however; she’ll be on the silver screen soon in Magic Mike XXL, a film which made her wish her husband was on set.

“It’s just… ten, eleven, twelve chocolate men getting greased down by the make-up department and literally I walked onto the set and my knee buckled. And for the first time in my life, that other head below started talking to me, ‘Procreate, procreate, procreate.’ And my top head was like, ‘Jada, there is not a Will Smith on this set. You can’t procreate with nobody.'”
