‘Toy Story 4’ Release Date Set, Pixar’s Jim Morris Says Woody And Buzz Will Be In A ‘Romantic’ Sequel

The Toy Story 4 release date has already been set for 2017, but the movie is in very early pre-production and not much is known about the plot. Pixar’s President Jim Morris opened up recently and is explaining that the previous trilogy is done and gone, yet they came up with a new storyline that’s said to be a romantic comedy focused entirely on the toys.

In a related report by the Inquisitr, a recently released Back To The Future deleted scene has created controversy since Michael J. Fox made a gay joke that some have labeled as homophobic.

Disney Latino’s blog asked a good number of questions of Jim Morris, especially when it came to Heavy-Mind, but along the way the topic of the Toy Story 4 plot came up. Morris explained that the Toy Story 4 script is still a work in progress but they do have a definite goal in mind.

“Usually, after working on the idea with the team of stories and writers who complete their script, we call Pixar employees or external actors to sit and conduct a reading of the script. It is evolving very well. We are putting together a very nice story. It is not a continuation of the end of the story of Toy Story 3. Temporarily it is, but it will be a love story. It will be a romantic comedy. It will not focus much on the interaction between the characters and children. I think it will be a very good movie.”

Of course, Jim Morris does not specify which character is the focus of the romantic angle. The love triangle between Woody, Jessie, and Buzz Lightyear has switched from movie to movie, so presumably either Buzz or Woody will end up being the third wheel in the trio. Perhaps a new character will make everyone one big happy family.

Morris also explains that Pixar had never planned on making Toy Story 4, but they believe their new script is worthwhile of hitting the big screen.

“Honestly, we thought we might not make another film Toy Story, but after a session of brainstorming with Andrew Stanton, Pete Docter, Lee Unkrich and John Lasseter we had this idea. John felt the irresistible need to do it. The third movie was over in a beautiful way and completed a trilogy. I think this movie is not part of this trilogy. It is a separate story, which in turn we do not know if it will be continued. Never begin a new project with that in mind.”

The reason that the Toy Story 4 release date is happening at all is because direct John Lasseter felt such passion for the romantic comedy angle.

“The way we approach these films is betting on a creative person and helping to incubate your idea. If you think of something you’re passionate about and we like it, we do it. The decision to make second or third movie entirely depends on how passionate the director of the project is for the idea. It is the best way to do it. Fortunately, our films are successful and we don’t have to exploit doing sequels to earn money. It’s not about that. It is about an idea that arouses enthusiasm.”

The Toy Story 4 release date is set for June 16, 2017, according to IMDB. What do you think about taking the focus off the relationship between the toys and the humans to focus on a romantic angle?
