Will Smith Says He ‘Fell In Love’ With Costar
Although Will Smith has been married to his wife Jada since 1997, Smith has recently admitted that he fell in love with someone else while filming one of his first movies.
Smith spoke with Esquire about his acting career and his latest film, Focus. It was in this interview that he spoke with how he feel in love with his older costar in his 1993 film, Six Degrees of Separation.
Smith said, “With Six Degrees of Separation, I got a taste early of the dangers of going too far for a character. My character was in love with Stockard Channing’s character. And I actually fell in love with Stockard Channing.”

The interviewer, in disbelief, asked Smith to explain.
Smith then added, “So the movie was over and I went home, and I was dying to see Stockard. I was like, “Oh no! What have I done?” That was my last experience with method acting, where you’re reprogramming your mind. You’re actually playing around with your psychology. You teach yourself to like things and to dislike things. It is a really dangerous place when you get good at it. But once I had that experience, I was like, no more method acting. I was spending—for Six Degrees, I wanted to perform well so badly that I was spending six and seven and eight days in character before shooting, and you have to be careful with that.”
So Will Smith fell in love with the one and only Rizzo, quite an interesting couple.
When Stockard Channing heard about Smith’s interview, she shared her feelings with Page Six.
Channing said, “Well, I’m very flattered.”
She added how she felt about Smith, and while it wasn’t love, it was pretty sweet.
“That’s a wonderful thing.?.?. I adored him from the first time I laid eyes on him because I thought he was genuinely sweet. I felt very protective of him, because it was his first big job. It’s amazing for me to hear that he felt that way, I’m delighted.”
Smith’s wife, Jada, doesn’t have anything to worry about, though. Smith’s wife is far from jealous, even admitting on the Late Night Show that “she likes watching Will Smith act out sex scenes for his movies.”
As seen on Elle, Smith’s wife told Seth Meyers, “When I’m with Will, I get to experience him physically…But very rarely do I get to see what he looks like when he’s in the game… It’s sexy!”
Will Smith stars in the dark comedy romance, Focus, released on February 27.
