‘Focus’ Movie Reviews, $19M Box Office Results Bring Buzz Back To Will Smith And His Amazing Chemistry With Margot Robbie

I saw the movie called Focus, starring Will Smith, on Saturday night — after many months of anticipating the film. The movie gained plenty of buzz when rumors of Smith and co-star Margot Robbie running off together the night of the Focus wrap party surfaced, with only goofy photos of Will and Margot in a photo booth leaking from that night.

As reported by Forbes, Smith’s Focus earned $19 million its opening weekend, which is enough to make the movie top of the box office. However, this was on the low end of expectations for the $50 million vehicle that would hopefully make up for the disappointing After Earth, a heartfelt movie that put Smith in the spotlight with his son, Jaden.

Perhaps Focus will end up being a successful movie for Smith, with positive reviews for the Will and Margot romantic dramedy surging forward, despite — or perhaps because of — the twists and plot turns that the movie contains that caused moviegoers to continue talking about Focus hours after seeing the film.

Those are the signs of a good movie — the ones that can rise above any criticisms of the interracial romance at the center of Focus, as reported by the Inquisitr. According to Deadline, the snow and icy weather affected the slow box office of Focus and Lazarus Effect on Friday and Saturday, so as the weeks continues, it’ll be interesting to see how audiences warm up to the movie. Forbes called Focus a darned good movie that deserved better box office results during its opening weekend, and pontificated how the domestic and international box office gross totals will place the movie within the earnings spectrum of other Smith movies.

No matter what, other upcoming movies starring Will could result in better ticket sales and reviews. However, true film lovers are talking about the excellent “show, don’t tell” axiom as displayed in Focus, with one particular scene showing a tough guy buying duck tape, a mouth guard, neck brace, helmet, and other items from a drug store — a set up that builds the audience’s anticipation of what he does next, making it worth the wait. Call Focus a thinking man’s movie — and deem the chemistry Smith and Robbie electric.
