Singer Steven Page Quits Barenaked Ladies

Steven Page, one of the lead singers of the Canadian band the Barenaked Ladies, has decided to leave the group. Page says he plans to pursue solo projects. The remaining members of the Barenaked Ladies will continue to play together under the same name.

Page’s departure is by “mutual agreement,” the band indicates. His upcoming projects will include “theatrical opportunities.” The band, meanwhile, plans to head into the studio to record a new album this coming April, then tour by fall.

“These guys are my brothers,” Page said in a statement on the band’s Web site. “We’ve grown up together over the past twenty years. I love them and wish them all the best in the future.”

“It’s the start of a new chapter for all of us. Here’s to the future!” added Ed Robertson, another one of the band’s main voices.

Steven Page was arrested last July on charges of drug possession. Police say they found Page with cocaine at a New York apartment.
