‘RHOC’ Reunion: Lydia McLaughlin Stormed Off Because The Holy Spirit Instructed Her To Do So

The RHOC reunion for season eight turned dramatic when cast member Lydia McLaughlin stormed off set, and in her new book, the mother of three opened up about what led her to leave the RHOC reunion set so suddenly.

On February 24, Radar Online shared a snippet from the book, Beyond Orange County: A Housewives Guide To Faith & Happiness.

“I sensed the Holy Spirit inside me saying, ‘You don’t have to be here.’ So I stood up and walked off the set.”

During the RHOC reunion, it wasn’t McLaughlin who was at the center of the drama, however, she was extremely impacted by the feud going on between her co-star, Vicki Gunvalson, and her daughter, Briana Culberson.

“No one was attacking me. I wasn’t crying because I was personally upset; I was full of sorrow for the brokenness in the room…I felt empathy for [Vicki and Briana]. They were having real, deep-rooted family drama, and it was presented to an audience as entertainment.”

Throughout season eight, Gunvalson and Culberson butted heads over Gunvalson’s romance with Brooks Ayers, and once the RHOC reunion rolled around, tension between them was at an all-time high, especially after audio was leaked of Ayers claiming he was going to abuse Gunvalson, and encouraging Culberson’s husband, Ryan, to do the same to her.

After hearing Ayers’ shocking comments on the RHOC reunion, Culberson expected Gunvalson to cut ties with her boyfriend, but she did not. Instead, the pair continued their relationship, which understandably led to very serious issues between the two women.

Following the RHOC reunion for season eight, McLaughlin announced she would not be returning to the show for a ninth season. The decision, she explained, was also something the Holy Spirit had led her to do.

“As I prayed about the decision, I didn’t feel in my heart of hearts that I was called [by God] to do another season of the show.”

As the Inquisitr previously reported, McLaughlin also addressed her relationship with Gretchen Rossi in the book.

“During filming I mostly argued with Gretchen and Slade, but Doug and I have gone on double dates with them once we stopped filming, and consider them true friends!” she wrote, according to a second report by Radar Online.
