Oscar Winner Eddie Redmayne Talks Living With ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’s’ Jamie Dornan, Playing Rugby With Prince William

Eddie Redmayne rounded off a stunning few months by claiming the Best Actor Academy Award on Sunday night for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything.

And it turns out that he will be getting plenty of congratulations from some of the world’s most famous people. That’s because not only did Eddie Redmayne used to live with the star of the most popular film in the world at the moment, but he also studied and played rugby alongside a member of the royal family.

While on the red carpet before the start of Sunday’s ceremony, Redmayne admitted to Access Hollywood that he used to live with Jamie Dornan. The Northern Irish actor recently portrayed Christian Grey in Fifty Shades of Grey, which grossed $140 million during its opening weekend across the globe.

“We used to come to LA and we’d go and we’d sort of rent somewhere or stay on friends’ floors and go to auditions and fail to get parts,” Redmayne explained.

But it’s not as though Redmayne and Dornan have drifted apart because the recently-anointed Oscar winner insisted that the pair are still “best mates.”

However, despite the fact that the duo are still close, Redmayne admitted that he hasn’t gotten around to watching Dornan’s performance in Fifty Shades of Grey just yet.

“I haven’t seen the film yet because I’ve been shooting a film in London, but of course we’ve spoken about it,” Redmayne declared.

He added that Dornan had alluded that the production of the film was an interesting experience.

“I think it was quite an extraordinary experience for him,” Redmayne declared.

Redmayne also confirmed that his wife, Hannah Bagshawe, also hasn’t seen Fifty Shades of Grey, and he noted that he’s unsure whether she’s keen to do so.

“I think it’s a bit weird when it’s your friend,” Redmayne noted.

Meanwhile, Eddie Redmayne might also receive a congratulations message from Prince William.

That’s because the duo both went to Eton, and they even posed together for the same photo back in 2000, as they were both members of Pop, a society of elected prefects at the school.

Redmayne, who is also close friends with The Amazing Spider-Man’s Andrew Garfield and Twilight’s Robert Pattinson, and William were even on the same rugby team in 1997.

According to the Telegraph, the actor previously explained that he always felt sorry for the future Duke Of Cambridge because their opponents would tackle him rather more ferociously than everyone else.

“We were on the same Colts B team in 1997. I always felt slightly sorry for Will because everyone wanted to tackle the future King of England. He took all the hits.”

However, Redmayne admitted that he hasn’t seen William since school, but he did add that “he was a lovely man.”
